The Barlow and Wilson Minstrels with forty performers bring the Original Dixie Quartette famed for plantation melodies and light comedy in Uncle Rufus Dream. Encores expected. seats at Red Cross Drug Store priced 25 35 and 50 cents. Also news briefs: Senator Bailey margins in Texas Legislature and W F Bywaters killed by in-laws on wedding night.
Messrs J C McClure and E S Mayes Jr purchase Wells Bros imple ment and hardware business and will take charge next week. McClure formerly partnered with Dudley Wells as McClure and Wells. Both new owners are seasoned, popular businessmen and predicted to do a large business. The Wells depart ure will be deeply regretted. Dudley Wells has wide county acquaintance and strong friendships. The business remains at the same stand and McClure’s Washington county friends welcome his return to local business. The Sun forecasts lucrative business for the new firm.
Hon W D Claybrooke, recently touring Kentucky for Farmers Institutes, earned strong praise from the State press for his efficiency aiding Commissioner Vreeland. Known across the state, he has numerous supporters who may push him into a major State office race in four years.
Mr G L Haydon purchased the farm of Mr R H McElroy located between Springfield and Texas for 30000 dollars. The 400 acre property was bought at 7 dollars per acre plus 750 in addition. Possession is to be given February 1. The farm is described as one of the best in this county and region.
A promotion announces Hon. H. B. Sherman will speak tomorrow night at the court house. The event is advertised as a key local address with emphasis on civic matters and public interest.

Lake Springfield aims to establish a canning plant with Indiana partners Edinburg businessmen visiting to assess stock and farming commitments. Some 2100 shares already subscribed, and 200 acres of corn to be pledged by Washington county farmers next season. Tomato crops near a factory could yield higher incomes than tobacco or corn, prompting local support and commendation for Mr Lake’s efforts. Also, Kentucky Retail Lumber Dealers Association passes resolutions praising Railway Commissioners McChord Siler and Ferguson for their diligent service and endorsing their work.
Republican leaders in Paducah commend Judge William H Holt of Louisville for Governor. He met postmasters in Louisville and appears to have delegates favor, indicating consent to nomination if offered. A state ticket with Holt for Governor and Judge James Brethhett of Hopkinsville for Attorney General is informally discussed.
A remarkable and audacious robbery occurred in Springfield over the past weeks. Tom Hundley and wife, workers for L. N. Railroad Co., returned to find their house stripped of clothing, provisions, and furniture. A gang of gamblers is suspected to have used the home as their rendezvous, consuming ham, flour, lard, and canned goods, with even furniture burned. The couple, hardworking colored folk, hope for apprehension and a stern local jury verdict.
Indianapolis December 11 1906 A Kentucky arson investigation reward note from J A Everton president of the American Society of Equity pledging 200 dollars toward funding and supporting an investigation into fires at Kentucky tobacco warehouses and barns while asserting the society’s non involvement and urging lawful action and prosecution.
Mr J W Sallee, longtime exsh ler of the Mackville bank, has accepted a similar role at a Burnside, Kentucky bank. He will assume duties after January first as his Mackville post can be filled, a compliment to Sallee who also received offer for his current position. Sallee’s excellent family will move to Burnside in the spring ahead of his new duties.
