Messrs J C McClure and E S Mayes Jr purchase Wells Bros imple ment and hardware business and will take charge next week. McClure formerly partnered with Dudley Wells as McClure and Wells. Both new owners are seasoned, popular businessmen and predicted to do a large business. The Wells depart ure will be deeply regretted. Dudley Wells has wide county acquaintance and strong friendships. The business remains at the same stand and McClure’s Washington county friends welcome his return to local business. Lake Springfield aims to establish a canning plant with Indiana partners Edinburg businessmen visiting to assess stock and farming commitments. Some 2100 shares already subscribed, and 200 acres of corn to be pledged by Washington county farmers next season. Bold robbery and nervy thieves strike Springfield

A remarkable and audacious robbery occurred in Springfield over the past weeks. Tom Hundley and wife, workers for L. N. Railroad Co., returned to find their house stripped of clothing, provisions, and furniture. A gang of gamblers is suspected to have used the home as their rendezvous, consuming ham, flour, lard, and canned goods, with even furniture burned. The couple, hardworking colored folk, hope for apprehension and a stern local jury verdict.

Mr J W Sallee Accepts New Bank Post in Burnside

Mr J W Sallee, longtime exsh ler of the Mackville bank, has accepted a similar role at a Burnside, Kentucky bank. He will assume duties after January first as his Mackville post can be filled, a compliment to Sallee who also received offer for his current position. Sallee’s excellent family will move to Burnside in the spring ahead of his new duties.
