Death of John R Wharton at Mitchellsburg Boyle county
John R. Wharton died at his home in Mitchellsburg Boyle county Monday night from heart trouble. He formerly lived here and was nephew of Major James L. Wharton. About fifty one, he ran a livery stable here and was known as an accommodating citizen. His body was laid to rest at Danville this morning at 11 o clock.

Joseph T Gordon one of the county’s oldest respected citizens died at home near Texas Sunday morning at eighty three from old age. A Baptist church member since seventeen he lived in the county most of his life. Funeral Monday at 11 conducted by Rev R L Purdom with interment at Bethlehem cemetery. He leaves three sons Squire John Gordon Thomas and Rev William and numerous relatives and friends who mourn him.

Cairo Quarantine Reports Yellow Fever Cases
In Vicksburg Mississippi on August 28 physicians of the Natchez board of health examined and pronounced yellow fever in two patients a white woman and a black man. Further inspection found five convalescent black individuals from yellow fever and 17 suspicious cases in the northeast town area with 13 clear yellow fever, traced to a Negro woman who came from New Colas de Le Sie Providence Louisiana making the total 15 cases.

Quarantine Detentions At Central Station After Permit Shortages
Crowds and through passengers were detained at the Central Station for lacking permits. Arrests were made of those attempting to evade quarantine officers. A Memphis bound passenger without a permit was kept in a hotel until her train departed.
