Springfield Meeting Seeks Freight Rate Reduction
A mass meeting of Springfield citizens and business leaders convened at the Court House to urge L N Railway Company to lower freight rates on the Louisville and Springfield branch. A resolutions committee pressed for reductions benefiting local merchants, with G C Wharton and C J Haydon to present the matter in Louisville. Also noted is the marriage of Miss Lillian Bland of Lebanon to Mr Richard Hagan, with Miss Elizabeth O Neal as bridesmaid and William Thompson as best man.

SIMMS. Thinking a letter from our little village would be appreciated will send in a few items. Mr. Charlie Harmon who has been on the sick list for several days is about well again. Mrs John M Horan and Miss Eddie Horan visited Mrs Horan's parents at Fenwick last Saturday and Sunday. Mr J Walter Brown made a business trip to Louisville last Wednesday. Mrs Magaret Yankey attended church at Springfield last Sunday. Mrs Henley Burnsides and little son H D of Danville visited her mother Mrs C R Bennington last week. Mrs Bud Piles visited her mother at Maud last week. Miss Mary L Buckman has accepted position with Mrs Elia Montgomery the popular dressmaker of Springfield. Mrs W J Buckman and little daughter Elsie vised Mrs Albert Rudd last Saturday. Mr and Mrs H J Parrott entertained a few of their friends at dinner last Sunday. Those present were Mr and Mrs B J Cecil and children of McIntire, Mr and Mrs Thos Waters and little Paul Buckman of Pleasant Run, Mr George Mann of Bardstown, and Miss Mary L Buckman of Shelbyville. All report good time. Mr Joe Mike Purdy attended the Masonic meeting in Lebanon last Thursday night. Mr John A Rollins was in our midst last week.

Death of Mrs. A. M. Coston at Clarksville Missouri
Mrs. A M Coston died January 25 1909 in Clarksville Missouri after illness while visiting S L Farris. She was born Elsie Farris September 1 1887 in Washington County Kentucky and joined the M E church at Mackville Kentucky at 15. She later joined the Presbyterian church. She married A M Coston June 29 1865 in Fayette Missouri. Survived by husband S A Coston and Mrs Bell of Fort Morgan Colorado son W B Coston of Wray two infants who died and a step-sister Mrs T Peter. Funeral held February 4 at First Presbyterian church with surviving relatives present.

Mrs. Sallie McIntire Dies in Louisville Hospital
Mrs Sallie McIntire aged 78 died at St Anthonys Hospital Louisville from senility. Widow of Hilary McIntire she had lived in the county until moving to Louisville for treatment after a nervous breakdown. She was esteemed, cultured, educated and a fine musician. The remains were brought to Springfield and funeral was held at St Rose.
