Mr J Will Thompson lost his house in a Monday morning fire. Sparks from the chimney may have started the blaze, worsened by gusty winds. The entire upper story burned, first floor saved, and the adjacent meat house damaged. The residence near Pleasant Grove church had lapsed insurance in February and was uninsured at the time. Mrs Stevie Thompson and the couple shared the home and were also affected.

Fire at Wall Street shack threatens old Truax property
Last night about 11 o'clock a fire broke out in the old flame shack on Wall Street owned by Matt Truax. Firefighters led by Chief Moore contained the blaze quickly thanks to strong water pressure. Origin unknown but the unoccupied building, previously rented by Kirk Cheatham, shows signs of possible entry and incendiary damage. Insurance covered the loss and the department praised its rapid control.

The body of John Rout was found on A. J. Rice’s farm beside the Dix River in Garrard County. Indications say he was killed when a burning tree fell on him and burned his body as flames consumed the tree. He was about 60 years old. His remains were found by A. J. Rice, Jr. It may have occurred Saturday.

Workmen James and Leslie Cox uncovered a brass covered iron pot filled with gold and silver coins worth about 8500 dollars while digging a cottage foundation on Colfax Street in Lexington. Their brother in law J Gooch holds one third of the haul with two thirds for the Cox brothers. the Colfax site once housed a Civil War pensioner known as a miser who died without an estate.
