Wendeborn Named Manitoba Public Health Director
Ralph E. Wendeborn of Winnipeg and former Elma resident is named Director of Public Health and Welfare Education for Manitoba, starting September 1. He brings twelve years of teaching, seven in Winnipeg, plus forest conservation work. He succeeds Dr. Margaret Nix who leaves for McGill.

Lac du Bonnet Memorial Centre clears debt on curling rink
The Lac du Bonnet Memorial Centre reported it is debt free including the $10,000 curling rink opened January 7 1950. After loans totaling $7,000, all debts and upkeep costs are paid with a July 1 profit of $4,500. The centre now values at $40,000 and plans an indoor skating rink with a three member committee to study feasibility.

Brokenhead Fall Fair entertains despite rain and small crowd
The 26th Brokenhead Annual Fall Fair at Beausejour on Friday September 25 drew a medium turnout due to rain. Entries from many points showcased outstanding exhibits though livestock were down from prior years. A notable display by the Little Stitchers and Gold Diggers Club under Mrs D Laneway impressed attendees. Prize winners will be listed in next week’s issue.

Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebrated At Newcombe
Upward of 200 relatives and friends from Foston Winnipeg Beausejour Lac du Bonnet and district gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wold of Newcombe Man on Sunday September 6 to celebrate the golden wedding anniversary. A lunch and dancing followed a presentation on behalf of the community. The Wolds who moved to Newcombe 45 years ago expressed thanks to all contributors, especially Mrs Hans Erickson for the cake. It was the third anniversary cake she made for the Wolds.

Beausejour Jaycees Host Visiting Junior Chambers
Beausejour Jaycees gear up to host the Region No 4 Junior Chamber convention on Oct 24 and 25 with delegates expected from at least ten outside chambers and Kenora representation. Registrations start Oct 24 at 7 p.m. at the Howland Hotel, followed by Party Night events, while Oct 25 features a business session at the Beausejour curling rink. Morry Shuster coordinates arrangements. Since forming two years ago, the local Jaycees have raised nearly two thousand dollars for local charities, including the fall turkey shoot that draws Winnipeg and Eastern Manitoba visitors. this year the shoot may extend beyond one day.

Dolores Sternat married Eddy Peluk on September 12 at St Peter and Paul church Ladywood in a double ring ceremony officiated by Rev Litkowski and Rev Bory. A twenty fifth anniversary party for Mr and Mrs August Petznick of Greenwald was held September 19 at their barn.
