Pine Falls hosts numerous holiday visitors from Winnipeg and Manitoba towns. Families, including the Bradleys, Horvaths, and Schipperhyns, enjoy fishing trips, long-weekend stays, and upcoming school year changes. Baby Woods born to Leslie Woods and Mary Booker is announced. details pending.
Labor Day activities in Pine Falls drew large crowds despite morning showers. The Pine Falls town team won the local baseball tourney while booths sold many hot dogs and drinks. Prize drawings yielded several unclaimed and claimed items. The event featured a tug of war, a dance with Fred Dufilly orchestra, door prizes, and strong committee effort praised by residents.

A group of C.G.L.T. girls held a weiner roast at the Whitemouth Tourist Park on Saturday night to bid farewell to Lois Freeman United Student Minister who departs for the East to study over the winter. Best of luck wishes followed.
A farewell party at Mr and Mrs C Ritchie Rennie bid adieu to Cpl and Mrs J Scully. Guests from Whitemouth Rennie and West Hawk Lake attended. The couple received two bedroom lamps and will be stationed in Selkirk where they begin a new home.
Mrs Wm Roy hosted a shower for Pearl Roy bride to be on August 29 at Marion McCulloch’s home. About forty guests enjoyed tur quartz and white decor, gifts in a wheelbarrow, piano solos, and a candle lit lunch as Pearl expressed thanks for the gifts ahead of her September 6 wedding.
Bill ShatkowSky, a popular local farmer near Whitemouth, shot a large black bear weighing about 500 pounds that had lingered near Henry Steiner’s farm for some time.
The 16th Scottish of the C.E F. will hold a reunion on September 26 at the Marl borough hotel. Col. Cy rk V C DS O, wartime commander of the World War I unit, will be guest of honor.
A Teaneck woman bought a bag in a Fifth Avenue shop last Wednesday and discovered a tag inside reading that the leather is highly fashionable but cannot be guaranteed for wear, a remark attributed to The New Yorker.
About fifty guests attended a party in the United Church clubroom in Pine Falls to honor Miss Lorna French. A Wedding March welcomed her, confetti balloons burst from a silver bell, and she was escorted to a decorated chair amid pink and white decorations.
Katherine Huhn guests with a corsage as Lesley Gretsinger and Lanny Cavers present gifts in a decorated wagon pulled by a twin engine Montreal Flyer. Mrs. Lyons presided at the piano and Mrs. I E McKew sang two solos.
Winnipeg utilities committee rejected Lac du Bonnet's request for financial help to build and operate a rural hospital. The proposal suggested funding through the hydro system at Pointe du Bois, but distance and available Winnipeg services led to a denial. A future cottage hospital at Pointe du Bois would be considered if needed. The next meeting was set for September 15 at Pointe du Bois.
Friends gathered at the Bethel home on Wednesday September 3 to honor Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Bethel for their fifteenth anniversary. L. J. Pulfer presented a crystal gift on behalf of the group. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Pulfer, Cpl. and Mrs. J. Bembridge, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Hayes, Mr. and Mrs. G. V. Hoban, Mr. and Mrs. C. Bethel, Mr. and Mrs. A. Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. W. Craik, Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Ridley, and Mr. and Mrs. Trithart.
Brian McDonald won a Whizzer bike in the Legion Building Fund draw held on Labor Day. The six month old plans to pass the empty carriage to his father Bill for rides, while consolation prizes went to Mrs. M Irvine and Steve Velie V.V.M.
Beausejour defeated Greenock 5-4 in a rain shortened game played Sunday August 31. After 4 innings the contest was called due to rain with Beausejour claiming the victory amid a flurry of late actions and events.
Nick Rumak hit a three run homer to extend Beausejour’s lead after Greenoak held a 4-1 edge. Rumak, noted for occasional standout plays, connected with the bases loaded to push the score further. If the nine innings had continued, history might have been possible.
The Harvest Festival at St James Anglican Church Beausejour will be held Sunday September 14 at 2 30 p m CST with a Choral Eucharist and sermon Rev J S McKinney Manitoba Secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society will preach assisted by the chair of St George's Anglican Church Transcona Flowers and fruit and vegetables may be given on Saturday September 13 for church decoration The event invites thanksgiving to God with the hymn Come ye thankful people come.
In Beausejour on Sunday August 24 a five team tourney paid out 100 cash prize. Greenoak defeated Oakbank 8-2 in the final to win 65 with Pine Falls earning 35. Other entrants were Tyndall and Beausejour.
