Seven Sisters Fall Softball Tournament Recap

The Seven Sisters hosted their fourth softball tournament on August 24 with six teams including Hungry Nine Winnipeg Transport and Great Falls. Hungry Nine beat Seven Sisters 5 1 in the final after a tight start, earning first money while Seven Sisters and volunteers provided refreshments and cheered a day of good sportsmanship.

Pine Falls Horticultural Society Stages First Garden Show

The Pine Falls Horticultural Society held its first annual garden show at the Chateau theatre on Friday August 22. The event drew large attendance and featured numerous entries across vegetables fruits home canning flowers vine fruits and crafts. Prizes were awarded by L Seguin and E Sterling with Best Kept Premises and varied top finishes noted, signaling a promising future for the society.

Pine Falls Holds Decoration Day Service

The Pine Falls Branch No. 64 of the Canadian Legion and Ladies' Auxiliary held a Decoration Day at 1 30 p m Sunday August 24 at the Legion flagstaff. Veterans from World War I and II were honored with wreaths and bagpipe melodies as rites were conducted by Canon W H J Walter Rev J E Hunter and Rev Father Couture.

Mrs J J Cuthbert Celebrates 83rd Birthday

Congratulations to Mrs. J I Cuthbert on 83 years of generous living. She marked the birthday on Saturday August 23 though not feeling well. Active in the community, she knits diamond socks for her grandson Ed, a Manitoba U classmate, and plans a special photo for her 84th birthday.

Obituary: Mrs. Jack Small Passes Suddenly at Pine Falls

Mrs. Jack Small, longtime Pine Falls resident, died Sunday August 24 after months of ill health. Born October 13, 1880 in Flint Michigan she lived in Tintagui Ont Belleville Ont before moving to Pine Falls in 1926. She is survived by her husband. Funeral at Church of the Advent Tuesday at 1 pm. Burial in Riverside mausoleum. Russell Funeral Home Beausejour oversaw arrangements. She was active in Eastern Star Court Moira No. 33 and treasured flowers and art collections.

Funeral for David Sivitek Held at St Peter and Paul

Funeral services for six year old David Sivitek were held at St Peter and Paul Church Ladywood at 2 p.m. August 26 with Rev C Litowski officiating. Burial followed in Ladywood cemetery. Arrangements by Renshaw Funeral Home Beausejour. Survived by parents a brother and a sister.

Pine Falls Bids Farewell To Local Residents

Before leaving Pine Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Collier were honored at a surprise party on Sunday August 24 hosted by L. E. Seebach with dancing and a lunch. Claire Higginson celebrated a farewell Aug 26 in Chateau hall with about 90 friends as she heads to Ottawa. Molly McGarrity departs Sept 1 aboard the Keenora for two months of relief nursing at Norway House hospital before posting east.

Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Gibbins were Jack's mother Mrs. A. Gibbins and Mr. A. Somers. Week-end guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Loveridge included Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Eburne of Winnipeg and Mr. A. Nash of BC. An unexpected guest at Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Walsh was Mrs. Ada Connor of St John New Brunswick. Matt Pearson shows prize winning flowers at the Winnipeg Electric Flower Show with multiple top placements across gladiolus dahlias stocks and more.
