Manitoba Militia Builds Two Bridges at Wekusko
About 65 militia soldiers from the 21st and 46th Field Squadron in Flin Flon and Pine Falls joined regular army troops to construct two foot bridges at Wekusko in northern Manitoba. The project trained militia in trades, improves access to nearby beauty spots, and the bridges will remain permanent structures. Lt Col S W Jackson handed the bridges to A W Braine as provincial forest protection director after a week of work despite two days of heavy rain and mud with no injuries.

Kostynyk captured the Residents Championship at the Annual Lac du Bonnet Golf Tournament in Pine Falls on Sunday with J Castelaine one stroke back at 84. The day saw intermittent showers, but improving conditions by midmorning allowed a full tournament with handicaps applied to reveal the winners. Bill Dzawy of Winnipeg won the Visitors Championship with 86, while Eric Staite of Carman finished close behind. Chief Veilleux captured the first flight with 86, joining his brother Art Veilleux in Pine Falls top bracket. Art Veilleux later won the Pine Falls Course trophy after defeating Reihhart in a 36-hole final.

One of the oldest residents of Lac du Bonnet, Martin Wold, 85, died peacefully at his home September 3. Born in Norway in 1880, he immigrated to the United States in 1896 and to Canada in 1908, helping found Lac du Bonnet’s farming community until his 1955 retirement. Survived by his wife Helma and children Alice Newart, Milford Sydney, and others. predeceased by two sons Harry and Alvin and daughter Mary. funeral held September 7 at the Lutheran Church of The Cross with interment in Lac du Bonnet Cemetery.

Brian Muirhead Named to Canada's World Water Ski Team
