New Firearms Registration Directive From RCMP
The Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police directs that all revolvers and pistols be registered with the RCMP, excluding dealers. Individuals may not receive firearms by gift or loan without local police approval and a new Firearms Registration Certificate is now in force since 1952. Registered owners must re register old certificates or provide firearm descriptions if certificates are lost. Anyone with unregistered small arms should register immediately through the local RCMP detachment.

The Ladies Auxiliary to Lac du Bonnet Branch No. 164 held a regular meeting at the Legion Hall on October 16 with 20 members present. Wreaths, a $15 Grade VII scholarship to Diane Morski, and a $5 donation to St John Ambulance were arranged. The group organized a Remembrance Day Tea for November 10 and sent a gift to Mr Norquay amid updates on members' activities and hospital visits.

Reverend Captain G Harding Dies in Highway Accident
The Reverend Captain George Hardy, 24, of Grand Marais died Saturday evening October 27 when a stalled car was struck from behind by a truck. The car owner Nelson Sinclair was slightly injured. A Northern Ireland native, he had recently joined St Jude's Anglican Church in Grand Marais after farming in King City, Ontario. He will be buried in Toronto with a memorial service in Grand Marais on November 3.

Margaret Upritchard 51, wife of John Upritchard, died October 1 in Chicago. Funeral in Winnipeg October 4 at Thomson Chapels with Reverend F. Marwell officiating. Interment Elmwood Cemetery. Born Belfast 1899, she moved to Pointe du Bois in 1919 and led Pointe du Bois Ladies Auxiliary. Survived by husband, daughter Diane, son Jack, three sisters and one brother.
