The annual Blood Donors Clinic will be held in Beausejour on Tuesday October 20 from 1 30 to 5 p m at the town hall The drive supports free transfusions for patients through the Red Cross and Manitoba Free Blood Transfusion Service started in 1950 with ongoing monthly supplies.
The Seven Sisters Falls Community Club held its annual meeting on October 18 with 20 members present. Officers elected include A B Krampetz as President and F Arseneault as Vice President, along with treasurer Sten Gittins and secretary Mrs C Birstow. The club voted to run one show a week at the Seven Sisters Theatre due to red ink, with two shows weekly continuing to year end.
Mike Loroff returns home from Malton Hospital near Toronto after months away. Arvi Laaja and brother Tommy travel to The Pas Manitoba for business and leisure. The principals cottage at the school grounds gets a fresh paint. Eddie Sitar and family vacationing at Elma Hall home of his parents. Walter Evanochko moves to The Pas to work for Canadian National Railways. Holy Cross Greek Catholic Bazaar held October 20 at Elma Hall. John Kowalski heads to Toronto for winter. Mike Janiuk family visits from Umfreville. William Kurian and Gus Zhirul visit for business and pleasure. Reporters Wendeborn and wife sell property to Nick Smerchynski of Medika. Smerchynski will take over reporting duties November 1.
Green Oak reports an extra holiday for voting on the liquor referendum. A baby shower for Mrs G Mikolieu was held with gifts and lunch. Jo Ann Ferens fell into a water ditch but was rescued and returned home safely. A variety concert and Bingo Night are planned for November 2 at the school. Ephrem and Ervin Bachman visited from Churchill after holidays with their parents.
Friends from Whitemouth and Seven Sisters Falls gathered October 15 at the Alex Hill home to bid adieu to Mr and Mrs R Hicock who depart for Steinbach Manitoba. He is District Supervisor for Manitoba Power Commission and both have long been active in community affairs including sports. Mrs Hicock served in the Whitemouth Hospital Guild and Lutheran Ladies Aid and was secretary of the Community Club. A gift was presented by Mr Charlie Hill of Seven Sisters Falls. The evening ended with dancing and general well wishings.
A three day course led by A. Thorimbert, Assistant Fire Commissioner, was held in Lac du Bonnet Municipal Hall on October 15 16 and 17. He urged efficient use of equipment and knowing the local fire department phone numbers 278 and 340. A school questionnaire revealed gasoline storage at home as a common fire regulation fault.
The Pine Falls Women's Hospital Auxiliary reviews a year of work with fund raising totaling 333.50 from membership drive, 41.50 from Hospital Day Tea, and 824.55 from a Fun Fair. New items include a portable suction ether machine an electric sewing machine and a nurses dining room buffet and picture. A silver spoon marked 1956 was given for the first baby born, Edmond Leonard Roy on January 3 to Margaret and Leon ard Roy. The sewing group turned out 550 new articles and repaired 833. The auxiliary plans another successful year and will canvass Pine Falls homes for the annual Membership Drive.
The MFU are planning a district cook book with sub district directors collecting two best recipes from local women. Sub districts list names and communities and urge all MFA women to submit by the end of October.
The Women’s Auxiliary to the Seven Sisters Community Church will hold its first regular meeting of the fall season on Thursday October 25 at 8 p.m. in the Church Room. All members are asked to please make an effort to attend.
Brokenhead High School visited Glenmoor High School on Friday October 19 for sports. Girls volleyball saw Brokenhead win three games to two with Miss Walker officiating. boys rugby featured close play and ended Glenmoor 18 Brokenhead 9.

Mrs Tina Switsky of Highland Glen Manitoba died October 11 after a short illness at Selkirk General Hospital. Funeral from Cooks Creek Ukrainian Catholic Church on October 15 with Rev Father presiding. Burial in church yard cemetery. Born in Austria in 1883 she came to Canada 51 years ago and farmed in Highland Glen. Survived by son Joseph at home and daughters Mrs J Dutka Hamilton Ontario and Mrs W Lane Toronto Ontario, plus 12 grandchildren. Renshaw Funeral Chapel, Boissejour, assisted.
Funeral service for Frederick Schinkel was held Oct 17 at Lutheran Church Brokenhead with Rev L Hartman presiding. Interment followed in Lutheran Cemetery Brokenhead. He died Oct 13 at Beausejour Hospital. Born in Russia in 1881, he is survived by five sons Reinold Paul Henry Jacob Louis, two daughters Mrs Gottlieb Begalke and Mrs Henry Kowalke, four brothers Andrew Michael Gottlieb and August, a sister Mrs Gottlieb Kneller, 24 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
