Outdoor School Proves Popular in Manitoba Forests

More than 6,000 pupils spent a day at the Manitoba Forestry Association outdoor classroom near Hadashville learning tree ages, growth, and fire prevention. The 300 acre site offers demonstrations, equipment use, and a spruce seed take home.

Slogan Schreyer Swords Clash at Pinawa Town Hall

At Pinawa Town Hall, Dr Joe Slogan Conservative Ed Schreyer NDP and Bob Lanning Social Credit clashed over campaign absenteeism and partisan tactics before 120 attendees. Each candidate spoke twenty minutes with five minute rebuttals, audience applause, and light humor from Bob Lanning.

Eleven graduates honored at Pine Falls Collegiate ceremony

Eleven Grade Twelve students graduated from Pine Falls Collegiate during a October Saturday evening commencement. Iris Gold led with the valedictory as diplomas were presented by Mr Tataryn and awards given by multiple officials including Mr L Bailey and Mr M Bray. Guest speaker was Mr Riddell of United College Winnipeg.

Report Card Emphasis Stressed At Lac du Bonnet Meeting

At the Lac du Bonnet Home and School Association October gathering led by president Mrs H Smith the program focused on the report card. An article by Phyllis Marks urged careful treatment of reports and personal growth pacing. The group noted approval of a new Opportunity Class and sought a convener for the annual Christmas concert to sustain half the association’s yearly budget.

Pointe du Bois 4-H Club Reorganizes and Welcomes Members

The Pointe du Bois 4-H club held its reorganization meeting in the club room on Monday October 38. Eight new members joined alongside 16 former members for a total enrollment of 24. New officers were elected: president Diane Anderson, vice president Robert Kulczycki, secretary Sandra Chulka, treasurer Sandra Oakley, and reporter Louise Mocogni.

Eastern Manitoba Development Board visit to Great Falls

A 25 member Eastern Manitoba Development Board group toured Great Falls on October 18 visiting the Cold Spring Granite Quarry and Manitoba Hydro plant. They heard Bruce Sinclair discuss Manitoba's electrical outlook, met at Casey's Inn, and discussed Recreation and road improvements for the district. The board, formed in 1951, aims to boost tourism, roads, business, and local facilities across the Red River to U.S. border.

Slogan Speaks at Lac du Bonnet Memorial Hall

Dr. Slogan spoke to 85 attendees at Lac du Bonnet Memorial Hall on October 19 outlining Conservative gains since Confederation. He urged a return to two party system, cited living standard gains from policies, attacked the NDP over BC grain strike, and predicted the NDP candidate would lose his deposit.

L D B Curlers Plan Opening Spiel

The Lac du Bonnet Curling Club held a semi annual meeting with 18 members. Doug Struthers reported frost control works funded at 400 dollars and a plywood lining to stop sand intrusion. A committee was named to organize the opening mixed spiel on November 1, with a round robin format.
