The Pinawa ladies curling club held a get acquainted evening on Wednesday October 27 with over 40 members present. A short business meeting chaired by president Mrs Doreen Thompson discussed white sweaters with emerald green trim. Whist, prizes for top four members, and coffee and cakes followed.
The Whitemouth Home and School Association elected A Ross of Seven Sisters president for 1965 66. Officers include W Bilynsky first vice president A Shevchuk secretary D Mishewick treasurer H Nelson membership R Barry social convener. J Readhead of Manitoba Institute of Technology Winnipeg spoke on post grade nine training. The meeting included discussion and lunch.
Filip Zajac section foreman for Canadian Pacific Railway at Whitemouth will retire to pension on December 1 after last day on November 2. He joined CPR July 6 1921 as a Cross Lake Ontario sectionman and served at Edison Darwin Tyndall Renne. Born November 25 1900 in Poland he married February 16 1932 in Poland. The Zajacs have four children and will move to Winnipeg after retirement.
The Pinawa Christian Fellowship celebrated its second anniversary at noon on October 31 with 150 members and families sharing a chicken dinner at Kelsey House. Convener W A McKeown introduced J E Guthrie who reviewed the group’s growth from a small worship circle to a resident ministry. Rev Donald Ross welcomed newcomers and spoke of the fellowship’s activities and bright future. More than 200 had attended the anniversary service in the school auditorium earlier, with Rev Ross officiating.
The Pine Falls Labour Council reaffirmed its policy of political action aligned with the Canadian Labour Congress while maintaining affiliation neutrality. It urged affiliated unions to consider supporting the party backing their aims, as expressed by A. W. Godfrey and Jimmy James at a meeting attended by eight unions and about 1200 members.
The Great Falls Community Club hosted a Halloween masquerade at the Community Center on October 29. Costumes ranged from diapered babies to long-tailed devils with beatniks and courtly dandies. Prizes went to Tres and Irene Gereau first, Cliff and Joanne Olsen second, Rollie Richardson and Jim LeRoy third. judges were Les Morgan, Walter Kristoffersen, Mickey Jansson, Anna Sutherland, and Mrs. R. Parsey.
Margaret Wilcott of Great Falls won the Agassiz Gold Medal for top student at Lac du Bonnet Collegiate during the October 23 graduation in Memorial Hall. The program featured remarks by Canon L Fryer and school and community leaders, with multiple awards handed to grade nine to grade eleven students, plus a $300 community bursary and two annual plaques for Arts and Science excellence.
The Pointe du Bois Teeners hosted a lively Hallowe en A Go Go at the Teen Canteen on Friday. Teens decorated the hall with homemade ghosts goblins and pumpkins while Road Runners provided music. Novelty dances and prizes energized about 70 to 80 attendees including teens and adults.
Walter Zarecki defeated Harry Olensky and Ed Wojciechowski for mayor in Lac du Bonnet RM on October 27 with 292 votes to 170 and 141 respectively across 13 polls. Ukrainec won Ward One councillor, Whitemouth elected Sudletsky in Ward Two, Bachman in Ward Four, Ferens defeated Larson in Beausejour, and Sunday entertainment voting passed 574 to 229. Portage la Prairie Mayor Henderson won by 42 votes.
