Scholarship Night at Lac du Bonnet Honors UN Seminar Student
The Lac du Bonnet Home and School Association held its annual Scholarship Night on October 9 at Memorial Hall. Arvid Olafson reported on the United Nations University Seminar activities, noting UN education health and agriculture work and political responsibilities. Awards were presented to Grade IX Judy Nicoll and Barry King, Grade X William Ripat and Louis Bruneau, Grade XI Darlene Brown and Lorraine Kreishman, plus a $19 Legion scholarship for top Grade VIII, Diane Morski. Miss Evelyn Lanoway president of St. Quens 4-H Garden Club won the top 4-H Award the Trip to the National 4-H Club Week in Toronto from November 10 to 15 at the Provincial final eliminations in Winnipeg October 11 and 12. This marks eight years of notable work and Eastern Manitoba's first 4-H Club representative at the national event in Toronto.

Education officials push for secondary school areas in Manitoba
Provincial education officials led by Minister W Miller press a campaign to create secondary school areas in North Norfolk and Springfield municipalities. Voters will decide on Friday October 19 in North Norfolk and Macgregor, with talks stressing that most districts are too small to run high schools. Brandon steam plant progress shows four units planned
A construction photo set of the Brandon steam generating plant shows the main building nearing completion to house four 30 MGW turbine generators with coal bunkers, aluminum siding, brick rear wall, and two 250 chimneys. Miller advocates area high schools to widen access
