Still No Settlement Between AEC L and Local 254

Thirty two Local 254 members of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry picketed the AEC L plant site near Hwy 211. They rejected a near 15 percent wage rise over two years with fringe benefits. Four other unions at the Chalk River site have accepted similar deals. Weekly talks continue with hopes of an early agreement. The strike began September 21.

Local Lac du Bonnet Election Field Grows

Nomination papers filed for Lac du Bonnet village mayor and six councillors. Mayor position open with Al Campbell resigning after seven years. Two candidates Gordon Johnson and Mike Kabaluk announce plans to run. Councillor races see six candidates for three seats with one one year term. Rural area also lists three Reeve contenders. School trustees elected by acclamation in several wards. Election day set for October 27, 1971.

Tickets remaining for Lac du Bonnet G of C supper

A Lac du Bonnet Chamber of Commerce supper on Tuesday October 19 will feature guest speaker Honourable John N. Turner Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada. MP Mark Smerchanski for Provencher will attend. Tickets available through the Springfield Leader or Beaver Lumber Lac du Bonnet while supply lasts.

Pine Falls Collegiate Commencement Exercises Held

Commencement exercises took place October 2 in Pine Falls Collegiate Auditorium with thirty-one graduates receiving diplomas. Abitibi Council on Education awards went to students in Grades IX to XII with averages of 66% or higher.

Manitoba School Library Audio Visual Association formed

The audio visual specialists and school librarians of Manitoba form the Manitoba School Library Audio Visual Association MS L A V A to integrate print and non print resources into instruction and assist others with similar goals. On request teams of resource people offer professional development programmes for teachers and librarians.

Local Coaches School Draws Manitoba Leaders

Len Williams of Pinawa and Glenn Hibbert of Pine Falls attended a Hockey Coaches In structors School in Gimli. Sponsored by Hockey Canada MAHA and the Provincial Government, clinics will be held across Eastern Manitoba with the first in Pinawa in early November. Contact Williams or Hibbert for details.
