Mennonite Children's Choir To Appear In Pinawa Friday

The Mennonite Children’s Choir of Winnipeg, led by Mrs. Helen Litz since 1957, performs at Pinawa Community Centre auditorium on Friday October 22 1971. The 45 member group tours Canada the U S and Europe and has earned top marks at Manitoba Musical Festival. Tickets cost 150 for adults 50 cents for students. Concert begins 8 15 p m.

Manitoba Urges Ottawa to Compensate Farmers

Manitoba calls on Ottawa to compensate Canadian farmers at least as much as industry. Premier Ed Schreyer and Finance Minister Saul Cherniack urge federal action amid U.S. import surcharges and other foreign measures. Agriculture Minister Sam Askiw says $80 million in planned compensation should apply to farmers as well. Letters are sent to the Prime Minister and Finance Minister.

Housing Authority Chosen for Senior Citizen's Home

The Manitoba Housing and Renewal Corporation appointed a committee to act as the Housing Authority for Lac du Bonnet Senior Citizen's Home, opening in early 1972. Members include R G B Butchart, Betty Dancut, Stella Soroka, Ian Harkness, and Mike Kabaluk. A salaried Housing Manager and part time caretaker will be hired. The home will have 20 bachelor units about 330 sq ft and four one bedroom units of 482 sq ft with full appliances except furnishings. A furnished lounge will be provided. Rental applications are being distributed. interested applicants should contact board members. Applicants must be able to care for themselves as no medical or nursing care is included.

Autopac Information Centre Expanded

The Autopac Information Centre has increased staff and telephone lines. Howard Pawley notes added Information Officers and more lines to handle calls. The 786-4411 line now operates 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM and Saturdays. Long distance calls are free within Manitoba, with collect calls arranged via local operator.

Sweepstake Agent Applications Opened in Manitoba

The Manitoba Lotteries Commission announces that community organizations across Manitoba may apply for agency status to handle the next two Golden Sweepstakes. Current Football sweepstake agencies must re apply, with eligible agencies being recognized charitable groups receiving 42 percent.

Action Seminar for Chamber of Commerce in Arborg

Ten chambers of commerce in the area will be represented at an Action Seminar in Arborg Manitoba on October 13. Arborg and District Chamber of Commerce president Peter Loewen says delegates will follow a full schedule to boost organizational effectiveness. Lorne Seitz and Murray Bater lead discussions. The program begins 6:45 p.m. with delegate registration. A $3.00 registration fee covers a seminar kit with booklets on effective organization management.
