Workmen began extending the Slave Falls power plant in April, adding two 12 000 horsepower generating units to raise the plant’s output by 24 000 horsepower. The project, part of City Hydro’s growth since 1911, aims to meet rising demand with completion targeted for December 1946 at a cost of about 1 421 000 dollars for equipment and completion. the wider plan includes enclosure and winter finishing under a196,000- dollar scope plus earlier expansions bringing total system capacity to 153 000 horsepower, aiming to keep Winnipeg supplied with cheap reliable power.
