Lac du Bonnet Lions Honor Hockey Teams Banquet

The Lac du Bonnet Lions celebrated sponsoring the Termites Pee Wees and Bantam B hockey with a May 21 banquet at Memorial Hall. Peter Stemkowski of the Maple Leafs spoke on education and hockey and a trophy and crests were distributed to Bantam B players.

Lac du Bonnet hosted the 4-H Public Speaking contest on May 20 at Lac du Bonnet Collegiate. Senior winners were Harley Nesper first, Margaret Fryer second, and Margaret Semple third. juniors saw Linda Kristofferson first and Margaret White second.

Teen drivers compete in the 1985 Provincial Safe Driving Championships in Winnipeg with regional hopefuls Ian Ross of Seven Sisters and Gary Merke of River Hills among participants. Fair attendance at the Whitemouth District Collegiate Home and School Association meeting in the Collegiate on May 13. A. Ross of Seven Sisters, president, spoke about his Winnipeg convention visit. Mrs. L. Rodgers of Rennie thanked Mrs. Molloy for her service as she leaves the staff, and a gift was given. A lunch followed the gathering.

Near Catastrophe at Paul Hoffert Trailer Boiler Fire

A repair man lighting an oven burner at a Paul Hoffert trailer caused a blast that threw top burners, dislodged the sink, torn cupboard doors, shattered a ceiling fixture and broke a wall mirror. Mrs Hoffert and children, and the repairman, escaped unharmed.

CBC plans better TV service for eastern Manitoba

Dr Joe Slogan MP says CBC is weighing steps to improve reception in fringe areas. First the Winnipeg stations were relocated and swapped channels. A rebroadcasting station near Fisher Branch for the Interlake region is under Ottawa board review for June 15 1965. Further planning targets Lac du Bonnet and other eastern Manitoba areas once field measurements and engineering reports guide the best site and install.
