Bertha Jorgenson Rites Held At United Church

Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Jorgenson wife of Ole Jorgenson were conducted at the United Church on Friday at 2 pm by Rev. William Steenson of St. Vital Manitoba with burial in Whitemouth cemetery. Born in Belgium France in 1893 she came to Canada fifty years ago. Survivors include four sons four daughters and eight grandchildren. Reeve Ed Henderson and Tony Kellner attended with the council. Funeral in charge of Renshaw of Beau­sejour. Organist Jean Segall led the service.

Mrs Pauline Sitar Obituary Dies At 86 In Beau Sejour

Pauline Sitar aged 86 died at her home in Beau Sejour on May 7. Born in Poland April 7, 1861, she lived 48 years in Canada. Predeceased by husband Wycenti in 1932, she leaves John and Michael of Elma and a daughter. Funeral by Bishop Markiewicz May 9 at Polish National Church. Burial in Polish National Cemetery.

Polish-born Jessie Nikodem dies at 79 in Ladywood

Jessie P. Nikodem died Friday May 9 in her 79th year. Born in Poland January 22, 1869, she settled in Ladywood 50 years ago. Survived by four sons George Bill Frank Edward all of Ladywood and two daughters Mrs Sahada and Mrs Kabaluk of Lowland. Requiem at St Peter and Paul Ladywood May 12. Burial Ladywood cemetery. Five U Graduates From Pine Falls This Year

Five Pine Falls students were among 650 graduates at the University of Manitoba convocation on Friday May 16. Marylyn Carey earns a BA while Nick Bachynski and Carl McCulloch receive Electrical Engineering degrees. Betty Towler takes Interior Decoration diploma and Margaret Robertson a Social Work diploma. Ethel Gove former Pine Falls hospital matron earns Nursing Education Teaching and Supervision certificate. Families plan to attend.

Wedding of Phyllis Park and Paul August at Lac du Bonnet

Phyllis Park and Paul Stanley August wed at the Anglican Church on May 10. Irene Park was bridesmaid and Dave Blake best man. About 150 guests attended a Community Hall reception with a dancing evening. The couple left for a honeymoon in Minneapolis Chicago and the U S before returning in two to three weeks.

The gown was white satin with a fitted waist and net inset, and a full length veil with coronet. Bouquet featured American beauty roses, with bridesmaids Dolores Schreyer, Maxine Baldwin, and Adeline Baker attending, groom’s attendant Ned Einerson.

Authority approved for Lac du Bonnet to become a village effective December 31, 1947. Nominations for mayor and councillors close October 14 at 1 p.m. in the Community Hall. Election set for October 24 in the hall. First village council meeting January at 10 a.m. W D Halliday named returning officer and village clerk pending appointment.

Fraternal Celebration as Schreyer Bride Weds in Flin Flon

The ceremony united a couple in Flin Flon with the bride’s brothers Anton and Leonard Schreyer involved in the festivities. A reception for about 150 guests followed at the bride’s parents’ home. Grandfather Schreyer, aged 97, showed notable energy during the party as Mr. and Mrs. Thomas departed for Winnipeg to begin their new life together.

Near catastrophe averted by quick action of truck driver

A fire alarmed Friday afternoon as three drums of gasoline in Pat Pearson's truck ignited in the manifold exhaust. Oleg Cass attempted to extinguish it until a White Rose truck driver arrived with a fire extinguisher, stopping the blaze and preventing a possible explosion. Cass is recovering in the local hospital.
