Parents Visit School Highlights Education Week Event

Parents toured the new school during Education Week on March 10. They observed demonstrations from primary to secondary levels including first aid sewing and physical drill. An all school assembly featured talks on home influence school community relations and Canada’s educational system with remarks from several staff members.

Mrs. Olena Ewasyshen 76 widow of Nichola Ewasyshen died after 27 years of his passing. Funeral services were held at Ladywood Greek Catholic church with Rev. O Carmylo officiating. She came to Canada 40 years ago from Western Ukraine. Survived by Mrs. O Kruk and Harry Ewasyshen of Ladywood and Mike and Ann of Toronto. Lac du Bonnet Ice Carnival Draws Capacity Audience

The Lac du Bonnet Ice Carnival on March 18 drew a full house at the new curling rink with a Queen, three princesses, and a parade of beard growing contestants. Prize lists include Ruth Apsit and Dorothy Champagne as top winners, with numerous costume and skills contests judged by local leaders. The event featured skating, nail driving, and sawing contests, and was hosted by Oscar F. Bjornson with thanks to the Winnipeg Skating Club and Memorial committee.

At the Beausejour hotel on March 7 the Women’s Institute approved a March 29 charity concert at Lyric Theatre to aid the War Memorial fund. President Mrs S C Henderson chaired. Dr Chown spoke on happy homes and teen issues. J Fletcher showed films. lunch followed hosted by several members.

Beausejour council approves a 400 foot concrete sidewalk on Park Avenue south side abutting section 36-12-7E to be laid by the town and charged to petitioners P G Trapp F J Wilgosh and S E Tocher. The town will install a curb at its cost. Meeting dated March 14. The Teen Age club gains six months use of town hall free. Grants of 75 to Children's Aid Society of Eastern Manitoba and 15 to Lions Club Beau­sejour approved. Final reading given to by law 404 on 1950 tax rates. Fire alarm pull lever switch ordered for Manitoba Telephone System. Fire Chief Oscar Russell authorized to reorganize volunteer fire brigade. Pine Falls Juniors beat Winnipeg 6 5 on Saturday and 23 3 on Sunday while an intermediates game against Hydro Bisons on March 14 ended 13 to 6 for Pine Falls. A Pointe du Bois player was injured in the Lac du Bonnet versus Pointe du Bois tilt. Lac du Bonnet juveniles edged Great Falls 6 3 with Zikman Mikhechuk McMahon and Coats scoring. Selkirk beat Beausejour 7 to 6 on March 19 as the season nears close.
