The Pine Falls Figure Skating Club staged a lively program on March 7 featuring hockey, fancy skating, broom ball, racing, and a log-sawing contest. Dr E Siddall praised the club's performers as Peewee hockey opened the evening and Joanne Farrell led pupil demonstrations. The log-sawing finale saw Bill Hurd cut through a ten inch spruce in 11 seconds, with Ray Nada and J Prudus close behind.

Despite bad weather and blocked roads the Beausejour Co operative Ltd campaign for more members drew heavy attention with seven district meetings and over five hundred attendees. Bruce Filuk spoke on co operatives history and rural advantages while J J Sief mans Altona W J McSorley and C C Hunt Swan River also presented. Lunches were served after each meeting and the annual Beausejour Consumers co op meeting is set for April 10 at the Ukrainian hall Beausejour.

Powerview council on March 10 approved a 1000 grant in aid from public works for Main Street improvements in 1953 and discussed a later connected road to Grande Prairie Stead road. Coroner's Jury Rules Accidental Death in Plane Crash
A six member coroner's jury led by H. P. Smith found accidental death in the Moore Lake Piper Cub crash that killed James Black and Alvin Baker on January 23. Adverse weather and possible pilot inexperience were cited as contributing factors. Dr. Lippman of Beausejour testified no drugs or alcohol were found.

Brokenhead Cattle Survey Shows Lowest T B Rating in Province
At the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead monthly meeting the latest TB survey showed Brokenhead with the province s lowest rating at 3 7 percent. Of 546 herds tested 5838 cattle yielded 226 reactors and 73 infected herds. The council postponed budgeting due to missing provincial support guidance and projected a $3 000 levy saving from municipal changes while drainage plans run near 40 000 though only about 24 000 may be available. Donations were made to the British and European Flood Relief fund 250 and 25 to the Canadian Red Cross.

Hockey Game Helps Margaret Huhn Fund at Pine Falls
On March 8 the Paper Makers met the Mechanical Men in a hockey game at Pine Falls to raise funds for Margaret Huhn. The Mechanical Men won 10 to 7, raising $176.45, with over half of the $750 goal already pledged. The fund committee met March 12 at President Henry Halpin’s home to report encouraging progress.

Dehorning avoids a $2.00 per head penalty on horned cattle over 400 pounds. dehorners and calving pastes are available.
