Beausejour Lions Carnival Draws Busy Crowds
The fifth annual winter carnival in Beausejour drew capacity crowds Friday and Saturday. The hockey game Beausejour All Stars beat Northland 8 to 6, followed by a village dance. Queen Phyllis Mroz was crowned at midnight. A high quality skating show by the Greater Winnipeg Ice Club plus performances by Clubettes and notable skaters highlighted the weekend.

Fire destroys Jimmy's Garage in Powerview
A massive fire at No 11 highway in Powerview around 5 pm on March 4 destroyed Jimmy's Garage, its equipment and stock in a total loss estimated at over $20,000. Pine Falls fire department saved two cars, one car was destroyed. the cause is believed to be a short circuit. The seven year old frame structure was owned by Paul Desilets.

Novelty Bonspiel Slated for March 13
The 23rd annual novelty bonspiel sponsored by the Beausejour Curling Club will start Friday March 13. About 40 rinks are expected to compete for a strong prize lineup. Each rink must include one female curler and one beginner, with a fourth added if needed. Entries are taken at Beaver Lumber Co or the Beausejour Hotel. Entries close and draws on Tuesday March 10.

Lac du Bonnet Council Meets March 3 for Deliberations
The Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet held its regular meeting with Reeve Ed Wojciechowski and Councillors Mazur Brincheski Horn Belluk, plus clerk G F Teare and two Brokenhead residents. Delegations sought snow plowing and road improvements, which the council did not commit to. By law matters included zoning bylaw amendments and bylaw transfers. Several pension and flood relief payments were approved, and inspectors for 1953 were appointed at fifty dollars each. Multiple accounts were approved for payment including local officials, flood relief, and community services.

The Whitemouth First Scout troop held a March 5 program at the Whitemouth school auditorium featuring two plays an accordion solo and two dance numbers with films Scout Trail of Citizenship Companions and The Dizzy Acrobat. Proceeds totaled about 60 to fund troop equipment while lunches were prepared and sold by Scout mothers.
