Immigrant Farmers Share Paths to Lee River Country
Mr Schauman and Mr Rexus, born in 1888 and 1900 respectively, left Lithuania and Winkler Manitoba to settle in Canada’s Lee River district after long farming and business careers in the United States and Winnipeg. They joined Mr Morski, who came from the Ukraine in 1926, now living in Lac du Bonnet, and Shaw, a western settler who arrived in 1905 with family ties to a local drug store. The piece highlights migration, settlement, and the Lee River area’s growing appeal as a tourist and farming region.
