Pine Falls Centennial Ice Party Celebrates Coach Annie McGuire
A large Pine Falls crowd enjoyed the Centennial Ice Party and Revue at Pine Falls Arena on February 28 presented by the Pine Falls Figure Skating Club and Artificial Ice Booster Club. Annie McGuire named Champ of the Day, with junior coaches and helpers guiding young skaters through a Toyland themed program featuring Pipe Band performances and a birthday cake centerpiece.

Lac du Bonnet Winter Carnival opened with a Colour Party at Memorial Arena. Scouts races and Cubs events led to top teams Roodeo Raiders and Fee Runners. Winners of fancy dress included adults Wilf Pickaid Hallie Lavoie Fay Campbell Shirley Sampson and children Connie Wilcox Cathy Blair Bathing Beauty. The weekend featured hockey between Termites and mothers, broomball wins by Lac du Bonnet Lakers, and a large crowd for a Schmockey Game. A 100 formed on the ice for Manitoba’s centennial, toboggans showcased at the dock, and a White Whiteshell safari. Sunday hosted the Winnipeg Game and Fish Derby with prize winners led by Derek Tirschman and John Surpwise.

Winter Carnival Highlights From Whitemouth Centennial Year
Whitemouth area residents attended a weekend winter carnival with an ice show crowning of Centennial Queen and various events. Winners included costumes, tug of war, and power toboggan races with many local individuals named. judges and spectators praised the Beaver crowd and Centennial Trophy honors.

Pinawa Men’s Open Bonspiel Sparks Community Curling Event
The Pinawa Men’s Open Bonspiel drew forty four rinks from Pinawa and nearby towns for a February four day curling event. Winners claimed Coleman lanterns and sweaters while the Hudson Bay and Centennial events awarded prizes including sleeping bags and Coleman items to top finishers. Teams from Lac du Bonnet and Selkirk were among the top placers, with notable performances by Gerry Smith, Barnsdale, Usackis, and Wog players.
