Lac du Bonnet to Host New Alfalfa Dehydrating Plant
The Manitoba government announced a new alfalfa dehydration plant in Lac du Bonnet to be built by A. R. McIntosh. Production is slated for this summer with grinding and packaging on the site using a continuous flow system. The plant will process alfalfa from McIntosh’s 1,250 acre farm and serve Manitoba markets, boosting agriculture and rural employment.

Birds Hill United Church Holds Annual Meeting
The Birds Hill United Church held its annual meeting on February 9 with Des McCalmont chairing and J Thomson elected secretary. Reports praised activity across sessions Women’s Aid Sunday School and the C G T I T programs. L. Tait presented the Board of Stewards financials. The Board will have five members with 1956 stewards listed and a new building committee elected to plan an addition, weather permitting. A March 9 congregational meeting will review building plans and a discussion with Morse Place on Student Pool participation was arranged.

Lac du Bonnet hosts a Village Council meeting on March 12 at 7 30 p m in the Village Office. The Home and School Association plans an Open House March 13 at 8 00 p m at the school for parents to meet teachers with a prize for the class with the most parents. Visitors include Tack Eeerson and family from Selkirk and Mr and Mrs Dori Holm and family from Winnipeg. Howard Standing becomes Grade 8 teacher after Christmas recess. Edythe Brown remains until end of March. Inga Zikman’s rink loses in Winnipeg to Mrs Clark of Portage. Lac du Bonnet spectators backed them. Paul Chapman celebrated a March 1 birthday with friends. St John’s African Church Boys League earned second badges the Armour of Truce from Rev Maxwell. Heather Nicoll born March 1 at Beausejour Hospital. Lac du Bonnet Legion moved to Pine Falls for a night of curling, then returned to the Legion Hall for further entertainment.

Mrs Dan Sehwark of Pine Falls and two daughters visited Mrs W Wittmeier for a week. A toboggan party at Brodie School on Friday night led to Miss Sinclair needing medical care after bruises from sliding. Pupils had baked beans for lunch. Former Keewatin Resident David Drew Passes at Whitemouth
David Drew of Whitemouth died Monday February 27 at Whitemouth Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born July 2 1883 in Wiltshire England he lived in Carman Manitoba before moving to Keewatin Ontario in 1908 where he worked in drawing. He married Sarah Johnston in 1910 and was a member of Foresters Flour City Court No 1124. Survived by two sons Esmond David Lac La Ronge Ontario and Robert Edward Kenora a daughter Mrs Robert Korlak of Whitemouth and ten grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Brown Funeral Home Chapel February 29 with interment in Lake of the Woods Cemetery. Rev W T Brady officiated. Pallbearers included August Olson Bill McLean Jim Drew and Bill Blackwell.
