The Lac du Bonnet Ladies Curling Club sponsors an amateur contest in the Community hall on Tuesday March 16 at 830 p.m. Open to all amateurs in the municipality and surrounding districts with no entry fee. Entries due March 13 to Mrs K R McCuaig Lac du Bonnet. Prizes awarded by audience applause. Luncheon planned. attend for a social evening.
The Lac du Bonnet Home and School Association calls a meeting for Monday March 15 at 830 pm in the school after two recent abstentions. The notice warns the executive may dissolve the group if attendance does not improve. The organization, started April 1943, highlights its pioneer status in Manitoba with outside speakers and a library.
Springfield MP Jack Sinnott topped a cow milking contest against Saskatchewan MP Gladys Strum as reported in Time magazine. Strum did not compete, leaving Sinnott undisputed champion.
The Beausejour Brokenhead War Memorial Fund shows a balance of 5476.87 after receipts and disbursements through February 25 1948. Donations from events and local groups plus bank interest contributed to total receipts of 5768.76 while disbursements totaled 291.89 for signs prizes printing and expenses. The note urges continued support for the Memorial rink project and asks readers to buy cement tickets.
In the second Inter-High School Bonspiel held Friday and Saturday Henry Owsianski led his rink to top honors defeating Jim Fenning 11-2 in the final. Rink included Alvin Radons Vi Englet Martha Beger with Vinglot subbing. Eddie Chmielnicki, last year’s winner, lost in the draw.
Manitoba Associated Boards of Trade aims to organize twenty five or more new boards or chambers across the province in 1948. Two new boards form at Lowe Farm and Tilston, with a third possibly at Whitemouth. McMullen says inquiries are rising as communities boost tourist facilities and highway projects to attract summer travelers.

Official Registrar figures show Britain setting two new records in vital statistics for the third quarter just ended. Infant mortality and stillbirth rates are the lowest on record with 5,000 stillbirths and a rate of 22.7 per 1 000 births. Child deaths under one year were about 7,000, a rate of 32 per 1 000 births.
Seven Sisters Falls Curling Club, led by Murray Thompson, edged Axel Erickson’s Pinawa rink 9 8 in a thrilling first game for the Wi Electric trophy. A near six-ender and a tying eighth/end gave spectators a tense finish before Thompson’s last rock earned the win.
Beausejour goalie Jim Miterek earned praise as his team routed Lac du Bonnet 6 to 0 on February 24 with strong team play and clear goaltending. Beausejour scorers included Jack Bird and the Englots among others. minor injuries occurred but crowd praised the display. A prior Makeup game on Saturday saw Beausejour win 6 to 1 after Lac du Bonnet canceled last Thursday's match due to no ice.
Verna Brown was crowned Lac du Bonnet Carnival Queen with a score of 27 175 at the weekend event. Irene Lavoie and Jeanne Wold earned princess honors. Miss Lila Jo Gattes and Miss Shirley Ann Ramshaw gave a skating display.

Alex Bradley rejoined the staff after six months away at the Coast. A death ruled to bronchial pneumonia was reported by Dr Luginsky at Russell's funeral home Beausejour. Funeral service held at Grand Marais on February 27.

Charles Bryan McLeod infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander McLeod of Grand Marais died suddenly on February 22. A post funeral service and burial details to follow in local notices.
The Ladies Auxiliary to the Canadian Legion Lac du Bonnet Branch 164 met February 24 with prayer, minutes, letters from Miss R Lloyd in Wales and Deer Lodge Hospital, and reports on lunches and bon spiel. They plan to assist at the carnival lunch booth and seek kitchen equipment funds. Dues are due, meetings move to last Tuesday, and a joint meeting with 164 Branch is set for March 11 at the Legion Hall.
Fred J Magnusson died at his home in Great Falls on February 26. Born December 31 1887 in Sundval Sweden he moved to Canada as a boy and worked on construction at Great Falls in 1919. He was foreman rigger since 1921 survived by his wife nine children Allan Holgar Bob Fargey R Eade Ernie Lennart Roy McHaffie June Tommy and a brother Gus in Riverland.
Frank Sokoloski died February 18 after a life in Manitoba including farming in Ladywood and work as a plumber for Manitoba Paper Company. Survived by Lena Sokoloski his widow three sons Bill Ollie and George four daughters Victoria Bernice Rose and others five brothers and four grandchildren. Funeral held February 20 at the Church of the Advent Pine Falls with Russell's Funeral Home arranging.
Mrs Mary Ann Wood a Tyndall pioneer born in 1856 in Donegal Ireland died Friday February 20 at Winnipeg General hospital. She married Stephen R Wood in 1883 and lived in Tyndall 55 years. Funeral February 23 Kerrs chapel Rev F Roberts burial Brookside with six nephews as pallbearers.
