The Pine Falls Winter Club carnival drew a full house as Lorraine Rigg was crowned 1949 queen. Presentations honored Queen Lorraine and Princesses Irene Frederick Yvonne Chagnon Beatrice Cyr with gifts to organizer and cast members. The fiesta backdrop by N Smorang complemented colorful costumes as the cast performed solos and a grand finale before a late party for the cast.

Dream Realized by Courage and Fortitude in Great Falls Curling Project
On January 8 1949 two Great Falls men scouted a site for a curling rink despite cynics. By February 18 after six weeks of frost and blizzards volunteers built the rink, laid gravel and ice, installed lighting, and hosted a community opening with dance and prizes. KC Fergusson and Ivar Anderson were honored for leadership as the project showcased strong community spirit.

A freak accident near Milner Ridge, two miles south, involved the Sikora brothers hauling pulpwood. Snow blocked crossing, a plow headed to Molson junction struck the stalled truck, injuring no one as the plow displaced the pulp into the snow.

92 Percent Vote For Hospital
The Rural Municipality of Whitemouth approved building a hospital by a 92 percent vote after a final recount. The $60,000 project will begin in spring with donations from Winnipeg firms. Affected areas include Seven Sisters Falls and the villages of Whitemouth Elma and eight townships. Credit is given to Oscar Peterson Arthur Williams Ed Lange and C E Wendeborn for the health education campaign.
