Pine Falls Hold Dance at Rebekah Lodge Event

The Rebekah Lodge dance in Pine Falls on February 11 drew a large crowd at the Chateau. Wilma Magnusson won the door prize, while Glen Smith and Margaret Lougheed won spot dances. The Stardusters provided the music with Ross Halpin and Rita Lavallee performing. A lunch was served. the note also defines crore as 100 lacs or 10,000,000 rupees.

Pine Falls Bay Staff Party Sets Stage for 1949 Beaver Club

The Bay staff at Pine Falls held a February 19 dinner and party at Manitou Lodge. Miss V Simonson gave the blessing before M Mills spoke. W Campbell was introduced as 1949 Beaver club president with new executives Mrs A Brown Miss W Shatford and Miss M Ross. Music by Forsyth Lauchlan Gretsinger Wood and Simonson. North Eastern Manitoba Bonspiel crowns Wood in lead role

The third North Eastern Manitoba bonspiel featured 36 curlers from Long Lac to Beausejour. Lac du Bonnet’s Ted Wood captained the wood to win the Springfield Leader trophy with John Kiziak Frank Currie and Art Brown in the top quartet. Beaver Lumber event went to Pointe du Bois as Fred King’s WECO rink claimed the Winnipeg Electric trophy.

Lac du Bonnet Merchants Approve New ByLaw

At the February 14 Lac du Bonnet village council meeting merchants opposed to changing hours spoke through J. Petrus A. H. LeVasseur Jos. Buhay H A Springman A Kost A Daneyt and A H Brown. The draft bylaw set hours 8 am to 6 pm on Mon Tue Thu Fri 8 am to 1 pm on Wed and 8 am to 8 pm on Sat. Some merchants favored retaining the current hours by gentleman agreement. A Beaver Lumber representative Mr Brown urged a compromise.

Pine Falls Ladies Curling Banquet Hosted at Manitou Lodge

The Pine Falls Ladies' Curling Club held a President Vice-President banquet at Manitou Lodge on Monday February 7 at 630 pm. President Mrs D Wardrop praised youth enthusiasm for curling and welcomed Scotland guest Mrs J McMillan. Two rinks were chosen to meet Pointe du Bois on February 20. Twenty eight members attended and an executive meeting followed.

Beaver Lumber Co. Ltd. reopens its renovated Lac du Bonnet outlet on Friday and Saturday February 25 26. The event ends weeks of anticipation with a bright interior noted as the store with the new look. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided by local organizations.

North-Eastern Manitoba Spiel showcased regional curling teams

Opening Saturday at Lac du Bonnet the Third North Eastern Manitoba Spiel concluded Sunday with multiple teams earning trophies. Notable squads included Beaver Lumber Co Ltd led by E Karklin and Jack Knox and the Seven Sisters Falls team skipped by Fred King, all photographed with their lineups from Pointe du Bois, White Mouth, Long Lake, Pine Falls, Beausejour, Great Falls and other communities.

Union Jack In New Flag Urges Great Falls

Village of Great Falls Manitoba council objects to any Canadian flag lacking the Union Jack and endorses the Red Ensign as the base design. It supports adding a Maple Leaf or Beaver in the fly for distinction, while affirming pride in both the Union Jack and Red Ensign as foundational flags.
