Obituary of John E. Engel Projected Canoe Tragedy

John Ernest Engel, 30, died June 2 at Pickle Crow Ontario after a canoe overturned during an outboard motor start. Born in Ladywood he served six years in the PPC L1 and Royal Canadian Signals in World War II. He worked in Beausejour before moving to Pickle Crow. He is survived by his mother Mrs John Clows of Dryden a brother Joseph Matthew Engel of Winnipeg and a sister Mrs Frank Wojcik of Beausejour. Burial was at Pickle Crow Ontario.

Eva Skibo Rites Held After Hazel Ridge Resident Dies

Eva Skibo 82 of Hazel Ridge died at her son William Skibo's home on June 12. Widow of Dmytro Skibo, she left four daughters Mrs Harry Belluk Mrs John Koski Mrs John Uskaski and Mrs Peter Sherbon and a son William, plus 29 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services were June 14 at the Greek Catholic church Cook's Creek with Father Roe officiating. Russells Funeral Home assisted.

Alexander Docyshyn of Stead Manitoba died June 14 at St Boniface Hospital aged 81. He came from Austria 40 years ago and settled in Stead district. Survived by two sons John and William and daughters Mrs Mazur Mrs Alysim and Anne. Funeral June 17 at Greek Catholic church Thalberg with Rev Carmyla officiating. interment in Thalberg churchyard. The Manitou Lodge at Pine Falls was officially opened by His Honor Lieu tenant Governor R. F. Williams with a white ribbon cut. D W Ambridge of Abitibi Power and Paper Co declared the hotel open for visitors, with M Mc Laggan handing the sciss ors to the Lieutenant Governor. Prominent Manitobans attended, including Hon J S McDiarmid, T E Silver, and Gordon Muligan.

3000 Pack Grounds For Farmers Day

Beausejour hosted a large Farmers Day with over 3,000 attendees. The event featured farm machinery displays from local dealers and Winnipeg, plus cars, races, contests, and prizes across many categories including oldest attendees, largest family, and various sack and wheelbarrow races.

Beausejour July 1 Celebration Draws Crowd and Prizes

Beausejour events featured Brad the Happy Clown entertaining children who crowded around him as he handed out more than 50 in toys from the Beausejour Board of Trade. A monster dance closed the day at the town hall and a Shorthorn bull was won by M Foloshyn in the prize draw.

Bernice Mary Szajowski and Stanley Edward Shumilak were married at St Marys Church Beausejour at 5 p m on Saturday June 19 officiated by Father Jaworski. The bride wore white satin with a long veil and bouquet of American Beauty roses. Bridesmaid Clara Kososki best man Allan Mac Lean. A reception followed at St Marys parish hall and the couple honeymooned in Kenora Ontario.

A double ring ceremony conducted on June 17 at 7 p.m. at Harstone Memorial Church united Margaret Rose Brewster and Lorne E. Blue.
