Mane 46th Field Squadron Takes to the Air

The 46th Field Squadron Royal Canadian Engineers trained at Camp Shilo using a two rotor Canadian Army helicopter. Personnel airlifted from Pine Falls to the range and back with refueling at Winnipeg. The exercise impressed all, with plans to fly again in August to support bridge-building in Wekuska area with the 21st Squadron.

Pine Falls Lodge No 63 1.0.C.F. installed officers for the coming term at a June meeting. Moose strikes car near Elma injuring traveler and frightening companions

On highway 15 five miles west of Elma a moose jumped onto the hood of a car carrying Mr. John Yuskiw of Elma and two Winnipeg companions. Yuskiw suffered head and arm cuts from a broken windshield while the others were shaken but uninjured. The moose died, the car front damaged, and a calf was seen nearby for two days.

North Eastern Fastball League Opens 1965 Schedule

The North Eastern Fastball League starts its 1965 schedule with Pinawa hosting Seven Sisters on May 30 at Seven Sisters. Teams include Beausejour RCAF Base Pinawa River Hills Seven Sisters Tyndall and Whiteshell. Pinawa loses first game 11 to 1 but wins 11 to 0 at RCAF next night. Mrs H P Smith Re elected President Lac du Bonnet Club

Mrs H P Smith was re elected President of the Lac du Bonnet Home and School Association at the annual meeting on Tuesday June 8 at the Lac du Bonnet Collegiate. New officers include E Semple Waters Arsenik Martin Fetterly McIntosh Zabolotny Melnick with Paul Sabina speaking on a proposed community summer program followed by coffee and foods of the nations.

Base Will Postpone Beausejour Open House and Softball

Unseasonably poor weather forced a postponement of the Open House and softball tournament at RCAF Station Beausejour last week. Station commander W C Martyn B Anderson apologized to those who missed radio announcements and said the events would be rescheduled as soon as possible, likely in early July after examinations, with area media to receive advance notice of the new date.

Cadet Halpin Wins Chief Instructors Badge in Pine Falls

Cadet Sgt Ron Halpin and Cadet Lt Dennis Paisian received top cadet awards at the annual Pine Falls inspection held June 4 attended by Col Douglas Burrows and Capt A Sawyer. Paisian won the Strathcona Ring for best marksman for the second time, Dennis having previously won it in 1963. Burrows praised the cadets' first aid training and character, noting the pride shown by cadets and parents as refreshments and a Legion Hall dance followed.

4-H Flashing Fingers Hold Achievement Day

The Pointe du Bois 4-H Club held Achievement Day in the Community Hall on May 19 with district Home Economist Miss Lynda McCallum and agricultural representative W. E. Lambert in charge. Members performed songs, readings, and demonstrations, with several participants invited to the District Rally at Beausejour on August 7.

Whitemouth Couple Honoured at Sudden Wedding Event

Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Belliveau of Whitemouth were honoured Friday by friends for their May 29 wedding. Mrs. Belliveau, formerly Grace Hoogkhamp, has served on the Whitemouth hospital nursing staff. Matron Mrs. Maurice Everson presented a gift and offered best wishes as a musical and social evening followed the brief celebration.

Local Ladies Attend Farm Womens Week

Mrs. Alex Henschell of River Hillis attended the 13th Annual Farm Womens Week at the University of Manitoba June 8 to 11 with Mrs. Baker. The event featured speakers on farming policy and mental health, tours of sites in Manitoba, and showcases from Morris, Altona, Rhineland, Gilbert Plains, and other communities. A centennial train and caravans highlighted the 1967 celebration as delegates toured Winnipeg projects and rural programs.

Recreation Program For Children Planned In Lac du Bonnet

A summer recreation program is planned in Lac du Bonnet modeled after city parks programs. Paul Sabina announced at the June 8 Home and School meeting that seminary students and other helpers will run activities for boys and girls aged about 6 to 12. Projects include craft work nature study hiking volleyball soccer and more. Details on opening date hours and meeting place will be announced soon.

Mrs. G. M. Hay Heads Whitemouth Hospital Guild

Mrs. G. M. Hay was elected President of the Whitemouth Hospital Guild at the annual meeting held at the home of Mrs. E. Lange on Monday June 7. Other officers include Mrs. H. St Gesell first vice president Mrs. Robert Martell second vice president, Mrs. W. J. Smith secretary, Mrs. Alex Hill treasurer, and members Mrs. W. Bilynsky Mrs. R. Noel Mrs. H. Steiner Mrs. O. A vote of thanks was given to past president Mrs. Robert Fraser and the group decided to purchase mattresses for the hospital.

Mrs. R. King Elected President at Seven Sisters Guild

Mrs. R. King of Seven Sisters was elected president of the Seven Sisters Hospital Guild at their wind up on Monday June 7 when the ladies travelled to Pinawa for dinner at the Staff Hotel. An audience toured the new Pinawa Hospital and the meeting was held in the Community Hall.

Village Council Approached On Summer Program

The Lac du Bonnet village council, with Mayor A Campbell and four councillors, agreed to apply to the Provincial Welfare for a summer recreation leader with the Lions Club as coordinating body. Delegates urged lane drainage, street grading, water line work, fire hall stucco, sidewalk raising, Notre Dame Parish storage move, hydrant orders, and account payments.

The Public Information Centre at the Whiteshell Nuclear Research Establishment of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited is now open for visitors with hours Monday to Friday 9 00 am to 4 00 pm and weekends 10 30 am to 5 00 pm. Guides explain nuclear energy and its applications while displays include a cloud chamber and uranium ores. Over 4000 people visited last year.
