The second annual Firefighters Competitions and field day will be held on the forecourt of Pinawa Willis Drive Pinawa on Saturday June 26 starting at 1 30 p m The event draws about twelve departments from Pine Falls Great Falls Laz du Bonnet North Kildonan Pointe du Bois Pinawa Atomic Energy Seven Sisters and Whitemouth The drills include three standard Hose and Hydrant events and a water football match with an empty drum as the ball The Provincial Fire Commissioner A Humphries and Chief Leckie will head the judging panel assisted by Chiefs from St Boniface St James Manitoba and City Hydros plus three mayors The non profit event is self funded with six trophies donated and will conclude with a family picnic at Manitoba’s newest beach

AECL presents a 3000 square foot nuclear exhibit at the Red River Exhibition in Winnipeg June 18 to 26. Highlights include remote controlled arms for radioactive material handling, Chalk River staff demonstrations, cancer therapy machines, a Pickering 1,000,000 kilowatt model, Whiteshell reactor WR 1, and a 200,000 kilowatt Paragon model. The Pine Falls golf foursome of Ron Seguin Bill Boivin Joe Reichart and Keith Kruger shot 319 to win the Free Press Cup at the District Inter-Club Championship in Brandon. Seguin led with a 74 four over par and posted 12 one putt greens while Boivin Reichart and Kruger contributed strong scores in a first win in five years.

Merrily Frayne Second in Miss Manitoba Contest
Miss Merrily Frayne daughter of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Frayne of Pine Falls placed second in the Miss Manitoba Contest held last week before the Red River Exhibition opening. She was crowned on the exhibition’s opening night Friday June 18 at Winnipeg Arena. At 19 she attends the University of Manitoba and will use the scholarship to continue her education. The Seven Sisters Calf Club held achievement day at A G Schultz’s farm with Mr Henderson and Mr Lambert of the Agricultural Department presenting red and blue ribbons. RCAF Station Beausejour soft ball tourney rescheduled
With bad weather past, RCAF Station Beausejour sets Sunday June 27 for a day of events, including a morning eight-team softball tournament and an open house from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm at the Operations Compound. A firefighting equipment display, gymnastic act, and square dancing on the tennis court are planned with gate visitors receiving a station history pamphlet.

Fathers Day Outing Binds Lads and Dads in Great Falls
On Sunday June 20, the Great Falls Boy Scouts and Cubs hosted a father and son outing at Whitemouth Falls with 18 Cubs and Scouts and their fathers. Scoutmaster J. Johnston and Cubmaster L. Olsen led a day featuring a base ball game races fishing derby and a barbeque supper. A raffle by the Great Falls Women's Institute raised funds for the Scouts. Larry Thomas won the fishing derby with a 1 lb 5 oz fish. Nine cars transported attendees despite poor weather. the event ended with hearty thanks to all helpers.
