Fire damages Lac du Bonnet garage for 33000 dollars

A blaze destroyed Kiziak's garage in Lac du Bonnet on January 21 causing about 33000 dollars in damage. The loss included a tractor two trucks three cars and garage equipment. Firefighters led by Chief Eugene Lavoie saved the adjacent Charles home and nearby fuel trucks from explosion while snow on roofs helped suppress the fire.

Eighth Annual North Eastern Bonspiel Set for Feb 5-6

Lac du Bonnet Curling Club readies the eighth North Eastern Bonspiel with about ten clubs expected to compete for the Grand Challenge and Spring Field Leader Trophy. Prizes include the J. W. Wade prizes for runners up, Beaver Lumber Trophy for the event winner, and Winnipeg Electric Cup for third place. a newly revived Trophy will be contested in the first three games. Visiting curlers will attend a Memorial Centre smoker Friday evening, with play continuing Saturday. J. W. Wade named as drawmaster and E. Malyk handling secretary duties.

Bowling Tournament Planned At Beausejour

A Challenge Cup bowling tournament with many Canadian Order of Foresters courts invited will start in Beausejour on January 31. Court 1650 OF Beausejour plans lodge curling events. at the lodge meeting J Leiman was named Chief Ranger and others received posts. 45 members and wives attended a housewarming for William and Mrs Splett on January 16 with presentations and a concluding lunch.

Ruth Wardrops North Eastern Grand Challenge Triumph

Ruth Wardrop’s Lac du Bonnet rink won the North Eastern Ladies Grand Challenge in Lac du Bonnet on Sunday January 24, defeating Whitemouth’s Josie Cousins foursome. Mary Willson’s Pointe du Bois rink narrowly trailed in Memorial Cup after a six point lead, while Swetz’s Gretsinger game heartbreakingly slipped away to Seven Sisters in extra ends. Winners’ prizes honored by local businesses. banquet featuring Mills Brothers capped the event with photos and next week’s issue promising coverage.

Beausejour Tragedy Slays Engaged Couple In Truck

Beausejour district mourns as Emil Briese and Millie Tocher are found dead in Briese’s truck parked on a municipal road south of Beausejour. Ernest Myers reported the scene, noting the gas tank empty and the switched running. Coroner Dr. R. Giesbrecht says no inquest will be held. sources say the couple planned to announce their engagement.

A mass meeting of Brokenhead Valley farmers will be held at Beausejour Town Hall on Thursday February 4 to discuss the pros and cons of establishing a Wheat Pool Elevator in Beausejour. Baby Born in Truck on Route to Hospital

A 6 lb 6 oz baby girl was born to Mr and Mrs Wohlgemuth of Whiteshell at 5 am Saturday January 23 while en route to Whitemouth hospital in a one ton truck. Mrs Wohlgemuth wore nightgown coat and flight boots. baby kept warm in her shirt. The couple were 15 miles from Seven Sisters when directed to Mr and Mrs C E Precious home for aid. Mother and baby are now in Whitemouth hospital in fairly good condition.
