Lake Front Residents Hydro Board Still Unsettled
A Lac du Bonnet meeting on Saturday January 16 involved 14 lake front residents negotiating sewer options. Hydro official Don Stevens pressed for a February decision on trunk sewer plans and funding totaling 49000 for Hydro, 16000 for the Village, plus 5000 for residents, with four claims totaling over 5000 challenging the compensation. Some residents argued their losses were greater due to power project impacts and severance lines. After mixed talks, a reassessment by village assessor H Eade was agreed to guide compensation, with a trunk sewer contingent on settling the 14. If not agreed, individual claims will block the project, a February 1 deadline.

Bird River Road Extension Proposed to Join Bird Lake
Proposals for 1954 Manitoba road works include extending the Bird River road to Bird Lake to serve the Falconbridge mining property. If extended to Bird Lake the project would boost Lac du Bonnet area development, open access to a 100 mile river system for fishing and tourism, and shorten the Red Lake Winnipeg route by about 100 miles. The extension follows a long history of past improvements and current mining activity, with Falconbridge drill success reshaping prospects. Continued on Page 3.
