Government approves water raise at Lac du Bonnet site
The Manitoba Hydro-Electric Board plan to raise Lac du Bonnet water level to 836 feet for maximum power at McArthur Falls received provincial approval. Public hearings in Lac du Bonnet and Winnipeg examined impacts. Premier Campbell noted about 14 000 horsepower extra output at roughly $29 per horsepower on dependable power, with compensation to affected landowners to be negotiated equitably.

A large number of associates and friends attended a retirement event for E H Hardy of Rennie who left the CPR after 31 years on December 1. He received a gift and plans to settle in Cranbrook B C. His brother C A Hardy also retired January 1 after 32 years with the CPR and will move to the coast in the late spring.

Wedding at United Church Winnipeg Marks New Year Union
Isabel Korlak of West Hawk Lake Man and Robert Walter Hardy of Rennie were wed at Young United Church Winnipeg on January 1 at 2 PM. The couple’s families declare the double ring ceremony performed by Dr W E Donnelly. The bride wore white nylon net and lace with a rhinestone coronet and veil, carrying red roses and white pompons. Matron of honor Mrs David Taylor wore buttercup lace, bridesmaid Miss Caroline Korlak wore turquoise nylon net, best man Henry Johnston. A dinner and reception followed at Dixie Lee hall Rennie for relatives.

Permanent offices were established for the Manitoba Chamber of Commerce integrated with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce under full time management of M J G McMullen who relinquished his former occupation to take over new duties. The R M of Lac du Bonnet met January 6 with Reeve E Wojciechowski and councilors J Mazur W Brincheski J C Horn and W R Belluk plus Clerk G F Teare present. They debated gravel and snow plow requests, approved 250 for the Children's Aid Society, and passed 1953 public works estimates with council as the finance and relief committees and specific allotments for councillor expenditures and motor grader operations.

Beausejour Constable Heads to Coronation Training
Beausejour residents bid farewell to Constable G L Dalton and his wife as the R C M P officer departs for Rockcliffe Ontario for immediate training with the royal commando force preparing to sail overseas for the London Coronation ceremonies on June 2. Dalton, one of three Manitoba officers chosen for the special unit, has served in Beausejour since 1952 after transferring from Port of Emerson and totals six years in the force. A local gathering at Park avenue home of Mr and Mrs Castroz saw well wishes for their safe return.
