Co operatives In Sweden Exert Economic and Cultural Influence

Swedish agricultural co operations began in county societies to solve farm problems through cooperation. By the early 1930s two main stages emerged with dairies, bacon factories, and feed purchases forming regional and national federations. The Federation of Swedish Farmers' Associations commands over 1 million members across 12 organizations, with around 360,000 farmers involved in co operatives and about 90 percent of marketing handled by federation linked co-ops. The system includes central unions for milk, meat, eggs, and forest products and a central credit network led by SAH founded in 1861 providing long term farm loans at low rates.
