Whitemouth Curling Club hosts second Open Bonspiel
The Whitemouth Curling Club held its second annual Open Bonspiel on February 10 to 12 with 16 rinks from Renie, Beausejour, Lac du Bonnet, Pointe du Bois, Seven Sisters and Whitemouth. Donny Stiener’s rink won the No. 1 event 13 11 over Seven Sisters as Thomson failed to raise last rock for shot. The Steffensen team won the second event, and Seven Sisters won the third. Prizes were awarded by club president Andrew Henderson.

He cited a 300 million dollar UK-Canada gap for the first nine months of 1955 and urged a more even trade division with the United States. Beausejour Man Narrowly Survives Garage Botched CO Incident
W Renshaw of Beausejour was trapped in his garage when car engine ran and carbon monoxide filled the space. Arm Melt zer Wilf Schneider and Cecil McIntosh heard muffled calls, forced entry, and helped pull him free before a doctor treated him. He suffered bruises but survived the near fatal accident.

Lac du Bonnet Subdues Bissett 11-0 in Hockey Showdown
Lac du Bonnet Bonnies dominated the Bissett Gold Miners 11 to 0 in a Sunday game. The scoring spree started 3-0 after the first period, with four more goals in both the second and final periods. One lip injury occurred to the Bissett goalie, no penalties were issued. Scorers included Frank Hanton, Leo Dubois, Arvid Dancut with two each, plus Rae Wilson, Ed Kikman, Father McRae, Ron Hirst, and Bob Kost with one apiece.

The Northeastern High School bonspiel at Lac du Bonnet on February 18 saw Lac du Bonnet rink led by Glenn Butchart win the first event, while Pointe du Bois captured the second. Participants from Pine Falls, Seven Sisters, Whitemouth, Great Falls and Beausejour joined with student council hosts for supper and a film night, ending with night lunch and dancing.

Elma Couple Mark Golden Wedding Anniversary in Elma
Mr and Mrs Thomas Nowicki of Elma Manitoba celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with family and friends at their home on a Saturday. A service led by Reverend Harris of Sacred Heart Church Sioux Lookout followed the event. Born in Poland the Nowickis moved to Manitoba in 1900 and settled first at Whitemouth then Elma. Mr Nowicki worked for the C P R from 1902 and joined C N R during the Edmonton railroad era in 1905 retiring as Section Foreman at Redditt Ontario in 1946. Their children include Stephen Elma Anthony Winnipeg and several daughters in Stony Lookout Saskatoon Fort Leonard Wood Montana with Ada Fenton absent from the reception.
