Beausejour Ice Carnival set for March 9 and 10

Beausejour Lions Club will hold its Annual Winter Carnival in Memorial Arena on Friday and Saturday March 9 and 10. The program features a hockey match, a jamboree dance, carnival crowning, and a star lineup from the Ice Club of Greater Winnipeg with about 45 performers, plus two Miss contestants from local schools.

Lac du Bonnet Anglican W A meets for study book session

Fourteen members and two visitors attended the Lac du Bonnet St John Anglican W A February meeting in the parish hall. Mrs W C Hardy led as president. scripture was read by Mrs E Lavoie. prayers were given for country and home. Mrs Ambrose led the study of Who Dares Stand Idle and outlined local church history from 1905 to 1996. The group discussed the Bible Society work, planned a Valentine Tea, and noted the World Day of Prayer event hosted by St John’s Anglican W A with guest speaker Mrs Radley of Winnipeg, inviting all women to attend at 3:30 with tea to follow.

Seven Sisters Falls elects Jack Craig to 10th presidency

The Friendly Fellows Club of Upper Seven Sisters Falls held its annual meeting on Tuesday Feb 7 electing Jack Craig to a tenth consecutive presidency. Officers named include Del Cramer as sec treas and John Zody as vice president with Ernie Klan as meeting chairman. The Friendly Ladies Club elected Mrs Ela Cramer as president and Mrs Hazel Hertzog as sec treas with plans for future business and a postponed draw.

Thalberg 4-H Sewing Club Photos and Ice Skating

The North Thalberg Busy Stitchers 4-H met on Saturday afternoon February 4 at Miss Podol sky's Cottage. Members sewed and practiced stitching with zippers and plackets, then enjoyed an hour of skating. Miss Podalsky photographed the event, and the group planned a 4-H photograph album.

Tourism drives sought in eastern Manitoba sites and care

Mr McLean of the Dept. of Industry and Commerce lands branch urged Lac du Bonnet Chamber of Commerce to secure resort areas and picnic spots in eastern Manitoba. Current sites at Bird River Brookfield and Lee River hold 13 lots with 15 to 20 more survey possible. Potential areas include Pinawa Lake and Bird Lake. Fraser urged better tourist facilities, open garages on Sundays, attractive storefronts, and tidy towns to attract visitors.

Norpax Shaft under way at Seven Sisters Falls mine

Norpax Oils and Mines advances shaft program at its Norplex nickel copper property 35 miles east of Lac du Bonnet Ontario. Collar may start this week on a 3 compartment shaft. plan includes two levels at 150 and 300 ft horizons and expansion of the B zone with a renewed drilling program. All-weather road construction to serve the area expected, linked to a 16 mile extension from Deer Falls.

Montgary Drilling Intersects Lithium At Bernie Lake Prospect

Montgary Explorations reports completion of the first two diamond drill holes at the Bernie Lake lithium prospect in Manstoby. Hole 22 cut 44.5 ft averaging 1.32 percent lithium oxide while hole 23 yielded 27 ft at 2.17 percent. The program aims to enlarge the known deposit estimated at 2,000,000 tons averaging 1.5 percent lithium oxide.

Lac du Bonnet Delegates Hear Road and Drain Requests

The Rural Municipality of Lac du Bonnet met February 7 1950 with Reeve Ed Wojciechowski and four delegates present. Delegations asked for road improvements and drainage including access to SW 15-16-12E and clearing on Sec 9-15-12. no decisions were made. A request to transfer land interests and a hospital lien matter were referred to a solicitor for clarification.

Beausejour Curling Club to Host Novelty Bonspiel

Beausejour curling event runs March 1 to 4 with about sixty rinks expected. Entries close February 25 with mixed teams of two women and two men unless approved by the committee. Prizes are being stocked for four events drawing entrants from eastern districts.

Surprise Silver Anniversary Party For Renshaws Beausejour

In Beausejour a surprise party was held at St. Marys hall for Mr and Mrs Wm Renshaw on their Silver wedding anniversary. Richard Rawecki served as master of ceremonies. Speeches by Rev Fathers Gurka Borys Kamenecky Mateuszek S P Lozinski and Mayor Larson honored the couple. About 300 attended supper and dancing followed until closing time with gifts of silver and cut glass presented.
