Twin test-tube calves born on Kokailah farm

Duncan British Columbia reports the first twin calv es from the Cowichan Agricultural Society artificial insemination club at W. Herman Dibble’s Kokailah farm. Twin births are said to be about one in nine hundred chances. Nearby Yorkton Saskatchewan outlines ambitious highway plans for hard surfaced coast to coast routes within five years.

Britain launches scheme linking English and Belgian schools

The Ministry of Education announces a program to pair English and Belgian schools for pupil exchanges and holiday visits to improve Anglo Belgian relations. A France Britain scheme begun in November already connects 15000 English pupils with French peers, and 250 British schools link with French schools.

Increased Interest in Nursing Gains Noted in Britain

More girls in Britain are entering hospital nursing with 12 460 trainees starting this year versus 10 004 last year, a 35 percent rise. The figure for 1945 shows 23 841 new nursing trainees, reflecting growing demand for hospital staff.

Brokenhead Council discusses gravel costs and road funds

Brokenhead Municipal Council this month asked the government to enter a graveling payment scheme for municipal roads. A resolution urged Manitoba Public Works to assume and operate the Ladywood-Grand Head Road as a provincial highway. The council also proposed levy funding for the Beausejour-Drakenhead War Memorial Fund and approved Beausejour Town’s bid to take over a transmission line to supply electricity to nearby farmers. Damages were awarded in a sheep issue. A mink ranch and building moves on municipal roads were also considered.

About 150 attended the Riverside Community Hall gala on Thursday November 28 to aid St. Theresa's Catholic Church. SEVEN SISTERS Up to date there has been little said about curling but the committee has been busy and two good sheets of ice are ready for the winter season. The bon spiel will begin on December 9 following delays last spring when ten games were left unfinished.

The Foreign Exchange Control Board Form B is no longer needed for gift parcels under $25 mailed from Canada to other countries. Postmaster General Ernest Bertrand announces the change, easing Christmas box preparations for destinations like the United Kingdom.
