In Burnaby Mrs Leliian Vinall reported a light flicker on her telephone switchboard and later a second intrusion. Police found footprints of a marauder who climbed through a theatre ticket slot and upset the phone. The report ties to a series of disturbances involving a stray cut.
Reports from Leader Representatives in Spring field Beausejour and Brokenhead describe a quiet voting day with low turnout. Fred Small of Lydiatt wins reeve seat. Ward 4 sees S Trojanowski elected for the seventh time. Ward 2 returns W Storsley. council totals show Lydiatt and local wards choosing new and returning officials.
C P Airlines personnel held a freeze-up party in Lac du Bonnet despite a baby blizzard and zero temperatures. Four days of quick planning produced a grand, well catered evening with dancing to local musicians. Appreciation extended to Wally Carrion and organizers for a memorable event.
Patricia Bethel became the bride of Kenneth Ridley at All Saints church Winnipeg on November 15. Rev J E Bethel officiated. The couple will reside in Winnipeg after a honeymoon to Calgary and Banff with out of town guests from Yorkton Sask and Vancouver.
Rev A Hubert unites Miss Ruch Bohlman of Leduc and Constable Waldemar Petterson of Lac du Bonnet in a late afternoon ceremony. White chrysanthemum and fern decor, bride in satin gown with lace and sweetheart neckline, bouquet of red roses and white mums. Groom’s sister and attendants in white with floral hair bands. Best man Constable Gerald Orr and ushers Lorne Bohrman and Delburne Klatt present.
The wedding at St Marys church Beausejour on Saturday November 15 at 400 pm united Victoria Frankowski and Peter Buttsman. Rev P Jaworski officiated with Dorothy Frankowski as bridesmaid and Walter Frankowski serving as groomsman.
The Pine Falls High School party on Friday November 15 at Chateau Hall drew about seventy students. Entertainment committee members Barbara Aseltine Rose Mary Lyons Ross Halpin and Edith Bayly organized a lunch with Pat Golin Wilma Crawford David Sharpe and Connie Romano. The program featured fax trats square dances polkas waltzes and a conga line. Neil Lyons and Wilma Crawford won the want contest while three prize winners received dish towels as gag jokes at prize time.
Pine Falls Anglian Ladies Guild held a bazaar and silver tea at Chateau Hall on November 20 drawing a large crowd. Mrs W Walter opened the sale, with Mrs M Haider presiding. twenty tea tables centered with white and mauve mine vases offered tea and lunch. Organizers included Mrs W K Spence, Mrs H L Clements, Mesdames Jackson, Haider, and a crew of Misses and junior helpers.
A large assortment of records were brought by students with Ray Perry assisting by playing them and announcing over the loud speaker. The party was a success and the student Council plans more events this year. Verna Perry celebrated her fifteenth birthday on November 19 with friends and a whist game ending in a lunch and cake. May Miller and Verna Perry attended a Pioneer Camp reunion in Winnipeg. The Senior Girls of the United church Sunday School are preparing for a Christmas bazaar and some girls are crafting shell jewelry under Mrs. Hutchinson’s direction.
Sinnott Motors Limited of Besusejour boasts an attractively designed garage on the Trans-Canada Highway. The district Dodge and De Soto dealer, run by M. P. J. S. Sinnott, features a fourty by ninety foot brick and cement block building with a large parking area for over a hundred cars and separate service and display areas.
The firm plans ample repair facilities and space for about twenty five cars, two concrete gas pumps, and a crescent shaped driveway on the main road. An agency for J. J. Case Farm Implements links the business to a large agricultural area, signaling strong potential. Mr Sinnett states the aim is to provide adequate service from top to bottom.
Seven Sisters Falls notes Red Cross annual meeting in the club room. Officers elected include A. S. Williams as president, W. H. Carter and E. Anderson as honorary presidents, J. E. Peterson campaign convenor, and several officers and reelectees across secretary treasurer and welfare roles.
The Lac du Bonnet Athletic Association hosted a successful Community Hall dance on November 22 drawing a large crowd. W Zikman donated a prize for a jitterbug contest won by Dan Ukrainec and Anne Shiloff, with Shirley Dillabough taking the ladies door prize and Lorne Campbell also noted as a winner.
The athletic association thanks participants for a successful dance. The club coffers gained about $65 from the event. Flooding of the rink will begin this week with the new pump and hose just purchased. Are your skates ready?
War Memorial Committee met on Wednesday November 13 at 8 30 p m. Presiding was B Warken tin with members F Hagen B Warkentin S C Henderson W W Childe W Horodycki O Russell 0 B Pulfer and J Bellan. W W Childe reported progress among local businesses pledges total 3370 received to date and the rest of town will be mobilized under Mrs W R Bethel Mrs H E Drysdale and Mrs F Hayes Buttons will be given to Junior Share holders to boost school children’s interest in the project.
The Ministry of Education announces a plan to link English and Belgian schools to exchange correspondence and pair schools with similar interests for pupil exchanges and holiday visits. A France Britain scheme begun in November has generated wide interest with about 15,000 English and 15,000 French pupils in contact and 250 British schools linked to French partners.
In Lac du Bonnet a group of twenty girls led by Mrs. Frank Brown formed a Foods club under Manitoba Agriculture. They conducted home cooking demonstrations, served teachers and veterans, raised funds for a Child Welfare fund, and hosted a Mother’s Supper. Their year ended May 11 with demonstrations and prizes, earning the T. Eaton Company Shield as the province’s top scoring club.
