Winnipeg River Bridge Raised Four Feet Two Inches

Work to raise the Winnipeg River Bridge at du Bonnet begins August 16 for about three months. Ten spans will be raised four feet two inches and new end spans built. Built in 1931 by Macaw and MacDonald, they hold the raising contract. Intermittent full closures occur, otherwise single lane traffic with 5 mph limit and weight caps apply. Jet aircraft tour to visit Winnipeg August 13 to 18

Three types of jet aircraft of the R C A F will fly over Winnipeg and district August 13 to 18 as part of a cavalcade of 15 planes. The three week tour covers about 50 prairie and west coast centres to show residents their first massed view of the jet fighters and trainers. Planes include CF-100 Canucks F 86 Sabre fighters and T 33 Silver Star trainers.

Four Car Accident Ties Up Traffic

A four car pileup between just east of Tyndall and Beausejour Sunday evening August 8 caused about 3000 in damage. One person Mrs. Fredette of Winnipeg sustained a fractured right wrist and minor facial injuries. All vehicles were from Winnipeg and RCMP and tow trucks faced delays reaching the scene. The disruption affected Winnipeg Beach and Grand Beach traffic, with many cars expected to reach Winnipeg in the early hours. a four lane highway could ease such congestion.

Road woes and weather affect town activities in Aug events

Two trucks headed to Winnipeg faced road trouble while another returned to Dencross and broke down. Families visiting locals, a high water washing the highway into the lake, and a postponed pier sports day on August 7 amid wind and rain mark a period of disruption. Pine Falls news moves from travel to labour plans

Mr and Mrs Glenn Guinn travelled by plane to Ottawa and will drive to Pembroke to visit relatives. The Pine Falls Trades and Labor Council met July 28 to greet a Senior Baseball Club delegation and seek funds for a new baseball grounds with metal bleachers. The session covered Labor Day events and a September Weekend schedule.
