Powerview PTA Discusses The Failing Student

The Powerview Parent-Teachers Association held its third general meeting in the Power view Collegiate auditorium on Monday evening April 12. Chairman R. Papineau led group discussions on The Failing Student with groups of five or six parents and teachers discussing two or three questions from a prepared list of 12. An excellent consensus of sentiment emerged after discussions.

A miscellaneous shower was held at Elma Hall on Sunday April 11 to honor Marlene Kurian bride elect for May 1. Guests included Beverly Kurian Marie Perchaylo and Mrs Stan Winter. Also noted were get well wishes for Len Russell and a relative in Whitesmouth hospital.

North Eastern Firemen Plan Second Field Day

North Eastern Manitoba fire departments met in Lac du Bonnet on April 14 to plan the 2nd Annual Fire Fighters Field Day at Pinawa on June 26. Contests include free hose laying, hydrant drills, rescue demonstrations in a smoke-filled building, and a charity fastball challenge.

AECL to Buy Heavy Water for Estevan Plant

The Hon. C. M. Drury announced AECL approved Western Deuterium’s process for heavy water production. AECL to contract for a plant at Estevan Saskatchewan with 300 tons annual output and underwrite sales for five years at $14.65 per pound.

Lac du Bonnet Village Council at the April 13 meeting approved buying fire fighting gear including 7 lengths of heavy duty hoses 140.3 cu ft Scott cylinder coats mitts and related items. Delegates submitted hose prices while discussions covered town planning memorial centre ditch runoff and municipal bonds and a dog licensing ad in The Springfield Leader.

Memorial Centre Annual Meeting in Lac du Bonnet

The Lac du Bonnet Memorial Centre schedules its annual meeting for Wednesday April 21 at 8 00 pm in Memorial Hall. Officers for the coming year will be elected along with committee reports and proposals to transfer Memorial property to the town and to improve toilet facilities and entranceway. The meeting invites all residents interested in a community centre and adequate facilities.

The Ting Rok Tope Club Bonspiel wrapped up on Wednesday April 14 with K King of Seven Sisters and rink defeating G Klapprat group to win the first event. Fred King R Krampetz I Kuhn and K Jarvis won the second event while R Reid G Rerick H Backer N Rya led the third. Consolation prizes went to A Frantz and B Pollock.

Easter Weekend Notes From Victoria Beach Area

Residents hosted friends and relatives over Easter weekend while others traveled. Gatherings included visitors at the Hamp ton home and multiple families at the Olafson and Monkman households. Local work began for summer as engineer Alex Anderson led his crew to prepare. Various residents returned from Vancouver and Victoria B C while Warne prepared for a year in England. An Easter concert by Stony Point school children under Florence Paulson drew crowds from Winnipeg Victoria Beach and Grand Beach.
