Pointe du Bois Curling Club Wind-Up Completes Season
The Pointe du Bois Curling Club held its wind-up on March 29 at the community hall. Prizes were awarded in three events, with Miss Hilda Heeren winning a Hanson table lighter in the douor prize. Mr KR Manning received gifts from the Canadian Legion of Pointe du Bois and fellow workers while leaving for Nanaimo. The Legion shield went to the High School rink skipped by G Drawson, which also took top honors. Ladies of the club served lunch to conclude the evening.

Mrs M McIntosh Addresses Beausejour Farmers MFU
Mrs Mary McIntosh, women's president of the Manitoba Farmers Union, told Beausejour MFU members that farm women must take jobs off the farm or families would starve. She urged women to join in improving the farmer's lot in the province at the Legion Hall meeting. Other speakers included Mrs M Chapman and Mrs McLaughlin. Officer elections are set for May 10 at the Legion Hall.

Bridge Opens East of Letellier on Red River Road
Public Works official Hen Bell announced the Red River Bridge east of Letellier is open. The Seddee bridge roadway will receive a hot mix asphalt mat, possibly requiring temporary traffic suspensions this spring. Mr Beth noted a known flood elevation in the area.

Ralph Stebbe Promoted to Sergeant in 1958
Ralph Edwin Stebbe, whose wife Francis lives at 241 Sydenham Street, Aylmer Ontario, was promoted to Sergeant on April 1, 1958. His parents, Mr and Mrs G Stebbe, reside at 1321 St Paul Street, Kelowna British Columbia. Stebbe was educated in Beausejour Manitoba and joined the RCAF in 1941 after five years at the G Stebbe Machine Shop. He has served at multiple RCAF units, including ME shop foreman at RCAF Station Claresholm Alberta, and later as mobile equipment technician instructor at the Mobile Equipment school at RCAF Station Aylmer. He enjoys curling, hockey, baseball and wood working.

Polio vaccine drive announced for Manitoba schools
Health Minister RW Bend said Salk polio vaccine will be distributed through Manitoba Health Units with over 150000 children to be immunized this year. Vaccination starts the week of April 9 for Selkirk Portage and Steinbach public schools and April 16 for Winnipeg. Doses arrive weekly from Connaught Laboratories and pass strict safety tests in Toronto and Ottawa. Two doses before summer and a booster for last year’s two-dose recipients are planned, supervised by local Medical Officers of Health.

Powerview Council Holds Quiet Session
Powerview council met on Wednesday April 11 with Mayor H Richardson presiding. The Leonard School District sought monthly funds of 3000 to operate. $4208.50 from reserve would cover April and May 1956. The council also planned tax sale properties list, approved the P56 budget, and ordered enforcement of the closing by law for poor buildings. Accounts totaling 3366.20, including 3000 to Leonard School, were approved for pavement work.
