Miss Agnes Hanson and Martin McKeand wed April 8 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Bissell in Lac du Bonnet. The bride wore a dove blue suit with brown accessories and a corsage of Sweetheart roses. Beausejour W I Backing Clean Up Campaign

Beausejour Women’s Institute held its April meeting at the Beausejour hotel led by president Mrs. Stepaniuk. Miss Anderson of the Selkirk Health Unit outlined a Beausejour cleanup drive with unanimous member support. Members discussed the campaign, with names including Mrs. Warkentin Dugard Henderson Stepaniuk and Mona McLeod. Donations of canned meat were collected for an adopted European family. next parcel will include personal items. A lunch followed the meeting.

The Anglican Church of the Advent held its annual congregational meeting with Canon W. H. J. Walter presiding. The secretary-treasurer F. H. Hills reported finances while the Ladies Guild and Sunday School showed progress. A building committee was formed to plan a new parish hall. officers for 1948 were elected including J. J. Obituary for Emma Swanson Pioneer Resident of Manitoba

Emma Swanson died at Pine Falls hospital on Wednesday April 7 in her 85th year. Born in Sweden she came to Canada in 1905 and lived in Manitoba since. Survived by a son in St Thomas Ontario and a daughter Mrs Ellstrom of Riverland. Funeral held April 12 in Teulon Manitoba at 2 p.m. Renshaw funeral home arranged the service.

The War Memorial committee staged an amateur night at the Lyric theatre raising 125 dollars for the new Memorial link. Selkirk Diagnostic Unit Opens for Springfield Area

The Selkirk Diagnostic Unit will open at Selkirk General Hospital on May 1. Dr. F. R. Chown announced the joint effort by Municipal and Town Councils to provide free diagnostic services including labs and x rays to residents of the Selkirk Health Unit area, with nominal x ray charges and health service ID cards required for all family members.

Great Falls Fire Fatality Prompts Family Recoveries

According to Pine Falls hospital, Mrs. Lillian J. Cook aged 20 and her three month old daughter Audrey are recovering from severe burns suffered in the Great Balls fire of April 3 which claimed the life of 20 month old Annie Cook and destroyed their one room home as Mrs. Cook escaped the flames.

Barley Contest Winners Split National Prizes in 1947

The National Barley Contest of 1947 awarded four major prizes totaling $25,000 with Alberta growers taking the grand and reserve championships and Manitoba growers taking third and fourth prizes. National champion James W. Bussey of Airdrie Alberta won $1,000, with other top placers including A Henry Segal of Alberta and J F Bradley of Portage la Prairie Manitoba.

Trade Board Donates $500 To Memorial Fund

Beausejour Board of Trade met April 5 at the Town hall chaired by O. Russell and A. B. Bonner. They approved donating 500 to the War Memorial Fund from carnival proceeds, with 100 already advanced, and planned Safety Lane car checks and a June 19 Farmers' Day event. Financials show skating rink loss of 320.69 for 1947-48.

Fire kills, burns two children. mother critical in Manitoba

A blaze in a lean-to beside a dwelling left a woman and her surviving child in critical condition and another child with severe burns. The fire began while occupants slept. K C Ferguson of Winnipeg Electric, Dr I W Sneath, and J O Jones coordinated aid. Fire victims were moved to Pine Falls after RCMP and a doctor arrived.

Agricultural Scholarships Announced By Canadian Institute

Dr. J. F. Booth announces an open competition for twenty postgraduate scholarships in scientific agriculture, each worth 800 dollars. This marks the third year of the program, funded by Canadian firms and totaling 50 thousand dollars.

Canadian agricultural scholarships expand training for 1948 49

Forty two Canadian agr iculturalists have received support in the past two years and awards will fund twenty more for 1948 49. Open to Agriculture graduates and certain degree holders with relevant training. Applicants must be Canada residents and apply to the Agricultural Institute of Canada in Ottawa by June 1. Selection chaired by Dr R D Sinclair, Dean at University of Alberta.
