Elma residents welcome visitors from Winnipeg including Helen Kurian and J Zavaduk while others such as J J Lysecki and Geo Procevior and Wilfred enjoy weekends in the city. Olga Kohut travels to Woodstock Ontario for her mother's funeral after a long illness.
Mrs. E Outhwaite visited Winnipeg last weekend returning home Sunday. Mr and Mrs E W Dearne and daughter Doreen of Winnipeg spent Sunday with their son and daughter in law Mr and Mrs Jack Kearns. Doreen remained to recuperate after a tonsil operation. Mr and Mrs R Spencer of Winnipeg stayed with Mr and Mrs C Precious. other visitors included Mrs F King and son Arthur, and Mrs G L Carr and Lanny. A Sigurdson went to Winnipeg Friday. several others visited the city this week. Also quoted are sayings by Mary Baker Eddy and Emerson.
Mr and Mrs J Hammersteadt and their seven year old son Dennis lost their Pine Falls home and most belongings when a noon fire swept the house on March 25. Neighbors helped, teachers upstairs also lost fur coats and money. The family is staying with Mrs Shave while arranging new accommodations. Community sympathy pours in as insurance covers part of the loss.
Harvey McMahon, a Lac du Bonnet resident and World War I veteran who lost a leg in France in 1916, died at a Vancouver military hospital on March 19 and was buried there on March 21. He spent years buying and selling horses, wintered in Winnipeg, and retired after heart problems weakened him following undulant fever. He is survived by his widow and daughter Joyce.
John Nowakowski of Ladywood dies at home on Monday March 24 at age 87. Born in Poland he came to Canada in 1900 and farmed in Ladywood for 47 years. Funeral at St. Peter and Paul Church on March 27 with Rev. C. Litowski. burial in Ladywood cemetery. Survived by three sons and three daughters.
Three scarves taken by Queen Elizabeth and the two Princesses may become museum pieces. They include Jacqmar designs with a floral border and a fairy tale motif The King sets forth.
James Russell reports the Lac du Bonnet Athletic Association raised 1157.45 dollars this winter through donations dances and other means to build and operate an open air skating rink and to give hockey a fresh start. Building and operating costs were 950.58 leaving 206.87 for summer sport activity including a new baseball diamond and ball club. The group thanks volunteers drivers lunch providers and fans and urges continued town sport mindedness to benefit youth.
Mrs. Mikelaychuk Calshrales Gotupie marked her 66th birthday with an informal party in Lac du Bonnet on March 25. She has a large family including nine children 25 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Family members and guests helped celebrate with a cake and candles as Mary presided at the luncheon. attendees included Mike and Eddie Mikolaychuk L Syntick and several others. Mary Brezino joined later that afternoon.

Miss Jan et Barrow, a BBC actress, created a nine panel tapestry about Britain and its people during WWII. She stitched in air raid shelters and BBC studios, finishing at midnight May 8 1946. She hopes London will house the work in a restored church. It was chosen for the Ideal Home Exhibition postwar revival.
