Junior Women's Association social in Pine Falls

The United Church club room hosted a March 27 social for the Junior Women's Association. Entertainment included whist, piano music, a musical competition and an Easter bonnet contest. A full course banquet preceded a Chinese auction to raise funds for the Manse. Proceeds supported the WA Manse fund.

Veterans Guard Units Recalled by Army Record

Disbandment of the Veterans Guard of Canada announced in the House of Commons leads to dissolution of three Manitoba and Western Ontario units with notable records. No. 22 Company and No. 23 Company previously served at internment camps in Ontario and at POW camps in Espanola and Angler, with members also guarding prisoners and aiding in labor. The Winnipeg formed unit, No. 10 Company later renumbered, provided guard duties at Shilo Camp and Red Rock internment camp, among others, and contributed veterans from 1914-18.

Manitoba farmers to receive aid buying purebred bulls

The Manitoba Government unveiled a bull purchase assistance policy in the legislature. After April first the state will cover 20 percent of the bull price up to an $80 grant, with price type and quality approval by the Live Stock Branch. Applicants should contact their agricultural representative or the Live Stock Branch in Winnipeg. The annual cattle breeders sale at Brandon on April 3 offers a chance to buy herd bulls and qualify for the program.

Pine Falls volunteers push a Red Cross drive aimed at raising 500 dollars by Saturday April 5. If contacted by a canvasser, residents are urged to donate and help meet the urgent need. Explorers Teen Age Group Formed At Pine Falls

A new Explorers group for junior members ages 9 to 11 from Pine Falls churches is formed under Rev J E Hunter Mrs R Gret singer Mrs D Munro and Doug las Lauchlin. Meetings are Mondays at 7 15 pm in United Church club rooms with ceremonies business worship handwork recreation. Officers named include Donald French Chief Explorer and Donald McDonald Recorder. An initiation ceremony occurred at the March 31 meeting.

Seven More Bills Reach Final Stage In Manitoba Session

In the fourth week of Manitoba's session seven more bills passed third reading with five private bills advancing toward the Lieutenant-Governor's assent. The measures include amendments to the YMCA Act a acquisition of London and Western Trusts by Canada Trust one Niakwa Country Club capitalization change and incorporations for the Ice Club of Greater Winnipeg and the Dafoe Foundation. Also moving were a Brandon City agreement validation bill regarding the Bran don Winter Fair buildings and a bill ensuring Veterinary Scholarship Funds do not lapse at fiscal year end.

Local Scout Ceremony Opens With Hymn And Insignia

After worship led by Rev J E Hunter Mrs Gretsinger assisted by Mrs Munro and Douglas Lauchlin directed the ceremony. Each initiate recited the Explorer Purpose as the group hymn This is my Fathers World was sung. Insignia was presented by Tommy McCullough and Bery Wilson before Candlelight Service. Benediction followed a shared motto and a tasty lunch concluded the day.

Coronation Rebekah Lodge Ninth Birthday Dinner

The ninth annual birthday dinner of Coronation Rebekah Lodge No. 51 was held Saturday night March 29 in Pine Falls. Guests included Pine Falls Lodge No. 63 members and their spouses, with many others. the banquet table stretched the club room, decorated in lodge colors. the Ladies’ service provided a delicious dinner and songs. pies followed a hearty main course.

Six year old Deanne Petrus wins Winnipeg amateur contest

Deanne Petrus, age six from Lac du Bonnet, captured first prize at the A C T Amateur finals in Winnipeg with 2726 votes for her rendition of My Best to You. The event drew more than 4000 spectators and included a banquet at the Marlborough Hotel after the program.
