Paris slum doorway and Arctic night sky vignette

A fragmentary diary style piece describes a Paris street scene with a dying man loaded into a wagon and police removing him, contrasted with nocturnal Arctic imagery. The narrator recalls a hospital ward, foreign visitors, and a late night sky filled with auroral lights and distant mountains as the sun appears to halt.
