Washington reports rain in Tennessee and Ohio Valley with warmer conditions overall. Expect southerly winds and falling barometer. Lower Lakes should see warmer fair weather with south winds and a falling barometer.
The Republican State Convention attracts many non-residents to Springfield this week. A noted invitation extends to visitors to tour a large, well-appointed house devoted to clothing, furnishings, and related goods, described as one of the largest of its kind in the West.
A vintage advertisement touts Owen Brothers Mammoth Springfield offering men and boys clothing at wholesale prices. It promises one price, impartial service, and full cash refunds while boasting vast stock and wholesale-style savings.
Across June 10 reports from the Owen Brothers Mammoth N B seersucker tour note General Grant meeting with General Logan lasting three hours and a lunch with his family. A letter from the Secretary of War arrives about trophies to be sent to Washington for safekeeping as Colonel Bachelder prepares to receive them.

The first ballot finished with Judge Foraker receiving 460 votes. A cheering surge paused the county roll call at Trumbull before the nomination was declared unanimous. Calvert of Cleveland moved to seal the nomination.
