Napoleon column at Vendome and its dramatic fall

A Cassell's Magazine memory recounts the 1871 fall of the Napoleon column at Place Vendome Paris during the Paris Commune. The crowd gathered as Colonel Mayer saluted, the flag was torn, the column toppled and fragments thrown into the Seine.
