A large fire destroyed the five story Lithographers and Engravers building on Exchange Street. Firemen battled the blaze as walls toppled and engravers’ and printers’ rooms burned. Mr Matthews and several workers escaped with injuries to one son. Loss is estimated at $290,000 with $10,000 insured.
