Counterfeiter Arrests Peak in Spring Valley Circulation
A wave of counterfeit ten dollar bills from the 1914 series circulated in Spring Valley and nearby towns. One note was detected by a Spring Valley City Bank cashier, others appeared later. Homer Sweeney, arrested in Peoria with twenty five counterfeit bills, claims innocence and says he bought many for 25 cents each. Police doubt his story and warn merchants to beware as more suspects are sought. A second arrest followed, with Sweeney's wife held in St. Louis.

Utica resident John Rowatt arrested on assault warrant
John Rowatt of Utica was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Benson at 6 o'clock Sunday night on an assault warrant obtained earlier that day by Harry Bender. The warrant was issued by Justice Harris. The complainant says Rowatt attacked him, tore his clothing, and injured him. Rowatt was jailed to await a preliminary hearing.

Geno Biannaci Bennie Guzzardo and Lena Reco aged 17 15 all of Chicago ran away last Friday in a Jordan automobile with 23 dollars. Lena grew ill from homesickness and the trio were brought to the county jail by Sheriff Mills Sunday morning before being sent back to their homes.

Farmer Ends Life With Gun In Dim Mick Township
George Smith a 53 year old prominent Dim Mick township farmer shot himself at his home six miles north of the city late Monday night. His daughter found the body Tuesday morning near a smokehouse entrance with the revolver by his side. The motive remains unknown as the family slept.

Aged Man Dies Suddenly at 924 West Dakota Street
Michael Makcovich aged 70 died suddenly at his home about 11 30 Sunday evening. He had asthma and illness hours before death. An inquest by Coroner Malm found death from acute dilatation of the heart due to chronic asthma. He was a native of Austria, resident in Spring Valley 28 years, a coal miner not active recently. Surviving are widow and two children Paul and Mary. Funeral and St Anthony church services held with Peru City cemetery interment.

Fall Forty Feet At De Pue Injures Electrician
Fred Hettinger an electrician for Leonard Construction Co at De Pue suffered serious injuries after a forty foot fall while working on a zinc plant addition. He landed on a cement sidewalk and was taken to Spring Valley hospital where doctors treated his injuries.

Miners Rescued After Explosive Blast at Orient Coal Mine
More than 1,000 workers in No. 1 shaft of the Chicago Wilmington and Franklin Coal Co. at Orient Alabama were rescued after a gas explosion and fire. Two men were killed Ira B. Hamilton and Harry Otte and thirteen were injured six may die. Rescue teams later brought out the dead and injured as families gathered outside. The mine holds a world record for coal hoisted in an eight hour day.

De Pue bootlegger pays fine after court appearance
Ignatz Jane of De Pue surrendered to the County Court on Monday and pled guilty to violating prohibition laws. He paid 344 dollars to satisfy the court judgment and his counsel fees after his raid tied to the Moonshine operation last June. Jane had hidden until recently when deputies gathered evidence from spilt liquor. Jane’s wife ran the establishment until she sold out. Also in court Dominic Paglia and Anton Crossage of Ladd received continuances of their cases until December 10. jurors were excused.
