Hall Township High School closes its year with events from May 25 to June 1. Senior class play Grumpy debuts May 25, followed by Alum ni banquet May 29 and Class Night May 31. Commencement with Dr. Convis June 1 ends the program. no admission charges listed.
John Bucko of La Salle faced a paternity charge in La Salle County Court. Judge Harry Beck presided as twelve jurors heard the case regarding a baby boy born at Peru People's Hospital on March 15. The proceedings followed Justice Fitzgearald’s court actions earlier in the week.
Pasquali Lelli and Joseph Waitkus escaped serious injury after their car veered into a ditch and overturned on the road east of Spring Valley Tuesday night around 11 30. Lelli, the driver, said he was blinded by the moon or oncoming lights. The wrecked car left both men uninjured.
For the first time in two years the county jail holds three inmates. In July 1921 Home Boy Robinson of Spring Valley serves three months of a six month sentence and is the oldest inmate. Mike Golis, also of Spring Valley, a moonshiner, has a short time left. W. S. Campbell, captured in Spring Valley, is jailed after obtaining money by manipulating express money orders.
James Yearsley named motorcycle policeman by the council to curb reckless driving. Commissioners vow to end speeding within city limits. Several offenders were captured on Dakota street last Sunday and fined 3.00 dollars plus costs for first offenses. higher fines apply for driving while intoxicated or second offenses.
Spring Valley residents urge conversion of local business capital to keep the Hoffman Trunk factory. Geo L Hoffman reports Tinley Park negotiations for relocation with a furnished building and capital to run the enterprise. The plant currently employs twenty. with funding, up to fifty more can be hired. Sears Roebuck orders boost prospects for forty more jobs if production can be expanded locally.
Mary Kuhre of Spring Valley filed a cross bill in Circuit Court seeking a divorce decree from David W. Kuhre of La Salle after weeks of separation begun January 26 on St Paul Street Spring Valley. She accuses him of cruelty slapping choking and dragging events earlier in the year while detailing alleged incidents.
The council selected nine library board members from seven applicants during Monday's meeting. Appointees include Joseph Yearsley George Condie Joseph Boucher Theodore Chesse Colin Manahan with four miners union picks Peter Ternetti Dom Casassa William Daley Anton Vucilius. The new board will meet Friday to elect a secretary and librarian.
Edward Fickhoff a 14 year old Peru boy saved a Chicago child near drowning in the Fox river at Sulphur Springs near Ottawa. The five year old girl and her younger brother urged a log craft into the stream causing a perilous capsize. The boy swam to the danger, pulled the child to shore, a physician treated the revived girl.
James Ford of Wyanet and Etta Hartford of Saginaw married in Princeton on April 25 after a long correspondence. The marriage ended quickly as Mrs Ford sought an annulment in Princeton but was unsuccessful and returned to Michigan.
An agreement ended two $10,000 damage suits against the City of Peru over an auto race accident from years ago. Heirs of Nels Nelson received an agreed $3,000 verdict. Ward Damiani got $1,000. The action was dismissed as to all defendants but the city. Peru Racing Association directors were original joint defendants.
The summer interurban schedule is printed in this issue with many changes to east and west bound cars and a noticeable improvement in service.
The unfinished stretch between Spring Valley and De Pue will not be graded this summer due to the large earth moving and grading required. Project details show extensive cuts and fills including bridges, with total costs exceeding a half million dollars and higher bid estimates than alternate routes.

An automobile party from Toluca struck and demolished a flight post at the corner of Greenwood and Dakota streets Tuesday evening. They were arrested in Peru on a telephone tip and returned to Spring.
About 500 members of the Loyal Order of Moose from Bureau and La Salle counties toured Mooseheart last Sunday. The Ottawa caravan arrived in the morning for a day of events including a concert by Kenneth Meisenbach of Peru and speeches, plus a tour of the facilities. The visitors praised Mooseheart, saying it exceeded their expectations.
State highway department nears a decision on bids for the Princeton to De Pue concrete paving project. Some engineers expect the lower bid, $10,200 under the initial low bid, will be accepted within days.
A petition is circulated among business men to close stores on Thursday afternoons in June July and August. The measure is nearly completed and the afternoon break is welcomed by business people and their employees.
Pauper Committee No. reappointed Dr. G. S. Me Shane as county doctor on Wednesday. Only two applications were filed and Dr. Me Shane submitted the lowest bid.
Deputies raided the Green Front saloon in De Pue seeking concealed liquor. Mrs. Joln Blatnick, wife of the proprietor, hid moonshine in the coal bed and shattered glass fell as she guarded the stash, foiling the raid for the third time in months.
The American Eagles face the La Salle Cardinals at Hicks Park in Spring Valley on Sunday May 27. The Cardinals won the season opener 7 to 6 in 12 innings, with both teams each having one loss so far. The matchup promises a competitive game and local support for the home team.
Mrs. Laura Savage of Princeton sues three trustees of the Pythian Sisters lodge for 10000 dollars alleging slander after a search warrant tied to the disappearance of ceremonial robes and jewels from the K of P hall. The warrant and home search were executed by the sheriff two weeks ago.
Walnut takes top honors with 20 points, Princeton 19, Hall 14 as Fairbanks of Princeton sweeps three events. Decker and Thomas lead Hall with multiple top finishes including two firsts and a second. Other event winners include Thomas Hall in the 220 and Decker Hall in hurdles, and Bliss Buda in polo vault.
Charles A. Thomas, former resident, died when the airplane he rode in crashed near Bryan Ohio last week. The pilot survived with gashes and bruises after performing stunts went awry. Thomas was married to Essie Liddell, daughter of Mrs. Liddell of Spring Valley.
Illinois Supreme Court Justice Duncan on a recent ruling states employers are not required to grant paid time off for voting. The decision holds that voting is a citizen privilege but not a constitutional right to payment for time spent at the polls.
Patrick Hughes aged 79 died May 15 after thirty years in Peoria county following emigration from Ireland sixty years ago. Funeral held at St Edward's Chillicothe with interment beside his wife, who died twelve years ago. he left Mr. and Mrs. Page Walton and other relatives.
